national team support map, 82 teams (NY Times) - ChicagoCard - 10-03-2014
I think we've seen a few of these GIS maps of fan bases but
this one is pretty good. Here is the
article-level page.

The map is fun, but just remember,
' "Facebook likes are an imperfect measure" [but outside of this sentence we will ignore trying to figure out anything about the accuracy of the underlying data.]'
This isn't quite true. On their baseball map they did note that the Mets have no borough where they have more fans than the Yankees in either Facebook likes or a couple of polls that were done.
But, as its just for fun I guess I can't get too worked up about whether there is much truth to it.

I think that C.al isn't one of the teams they assigned a color to. Even though Kal sucks, I find it impossible to believe that Oregon is the most popular team in the Berkeley zip codes.
Also, I can vouch for the popularity of Oregon here in Montana. I've seen more O stickers on cars here in Missoula than I would expect in Portland.
Fun article/map. Thanks for posting.

As someone who lives in Alameda county, just south of Berkeley, I would be positively shocked if Oregon had that much support. I don't see any Oregon car stickers or plate frames or what-have-you, but there's a lot of C
al and a good amount of Stanford. This is probably just demonstrating that Oregon is a bandwagon team right now (though hopefully that will start to change).

I think that changed effective last night! :P
That being said, part of me wanted to beat an undefeated Duck squad later in the season.

This map does not even acknowledge the existence of Kal. LOL

Every single zip code has a list of the top few teams by Facebook likes. It appears that c.a.l. rarely shows up in the list and never at the top.
Of course over the past year or two, it would seem unlikely that many c.a.l. fans would go out of their way to post such likes while the team is getting pummeled. It doesn't actually mean that there are fewer c.a.l. fans there.

I must me seeing a different map. Western Alameda and Contra Costa counties are all yellow. In towns east of Kabam Field, there are more Duck fans that Stanford Fans. In Silicon Valley, there are more Duck fans than weenie fans.

I think Kal has been added since this morning. They definitely weren't there earlier today.
