Never mind? Nothing much? No Message?

Re: Shayne Skov signed with Tampa Bay's practice squad (nm) - terry - 09-24-2014

nm = no message

same as NT (no text)

Normally I would put "nm" only in the subject line and I would leave the message body blank. But this board doesn't allow the message body to be blank, so I repeated nm in the body.

I also thought it was "nevermind" and was confused. If you're under 30 I think "nm" as "nevermind" is something you see a few orders of magnitude more often.

The Tampa Bay defense was heavily lauded by pundits before the season started...that expectation has not been borne out.  Maybe Skov will climb his way onto the roster...

Putting (nm) in the subject header has been part of message board etiquette since the 70s.

Usenet pages used to take 15-30 seconds to load and readers would get angry if they were forced to load a blank page and then go back and load the index before moving on.  Terry is being polite.

Sure, and that's fine, all I'm saying is that the general experience of someone around my age is that "nm" means "nevermind", which I think is reasonable to keep in mind. I read the OP here and thought "oh I guess that was a rumor and it didn't happen".

Sometimes I try to tell my friends how funny the crap is that goes back and forth on this board.  Inane, arcane, and sometimes insane but they don't believe me and most are too lazy to join and find out.  I'm actually an alum of some middle age and would love to see jokers from the early 80s like Rob Moore, Vic Mowatt, and Mike Teews get on here and know readers are rolling on the floor and spewing coffee on their screens.  They've got some stories to tell now that the statute of limitations has expired.  But til then this will do.  Thanks for the laughs.

Thanks for clarifying.  I thought you had taken up yoga.

Thanks for the clarification, Terry. Given the context, my first guess would have been "no message" except for the fact that, well, you (had to) put in a message. Mystery solved.

Hello fellow '83 graduate.  It's true, there are debates on this board over the most trivial of details of some distant event.  All in good humor, most of the time.  There is no doubt that reading posts on this board will increase your knowledge.

I knew Rob Moore at the Farm.  He was a character.  I've got a story involving Rob.  When I graduated from Law School I bought the travel guide Let's Go To Europe, a youth hostel membership card, a two month Eurorail Pass, a soft duffel bag that converted to a backpack, and a one-way ticket on Yugoslav Air to Athens.  My first stop on my European adventure was to be the Greek Islands.  I traveled solo.  Getting to the island of Ios was an adventure in and of itself, but I finally arrived on a ferry boat at about 11 PM.  I was told that there were no hotel rooms available on the island, but that I could sleep at the campground at the beach on the other side of the island.  It was about a 2 mile walk to this beach.  About half way there I spotted a tavern on the side of the road from which I could hear music.  Being tired, hot, and quite sweaty, I decided that a beer was in order.  When I entered the small tavern there were only three people present, the Greek bartender, a pretty blonde girl, and Rob Moore.  We downed a few beers and caught up on our life stories after Stanford.  The blonde was Rob's girlfriend.  It turns out that they were leaving the next morning and they convinced the owner of the inn in which they were staying to rent me the room after they checked out.  For $12/night, including a breakfast of coffee, bread and marmalade, I got a clean room on a cliff with a gorgeous view overlooking the clothing optional beach below.  I spent a week there before continuing my adventure to other parts of Europe.

Marty, as improbable as it seems, I believe I partied at that same taverna in 1968.  Didn't you see my "Go Indians" carved on the bar?

I want to party with you guys.

Other than the clothing optional beach.
