Could we please please get rid of the autocorrect?
Honestly, for a person with my learning disability, it makes many of the posts harder to read. I cannot keep a clear frame of reference for all these synonyms for our rivals.
And Terry made another of his good points recently, when he said that belittling our opponents no longer is necessary because we can now beat them on the field. We don't need barbs, especially these year's old ones that no longer stick after such heavy use--and they truly confound me most of the time.
Please please please?
A modest proposal... - Redrum - 09-08-2014
I don't have a dog in this fight. The autocorrect is a mild annoyance at times. But it's also part of the Cardboard's shoestring-and-a-prayer past.
However: why not do what the rest of the world does when trying to figured things out: Run an experiment. Turn it off for a month or two and see what happens. If people beg for it to return, then turn it back on. If it passes peacefully into the storied Cardboard lore, I guess that's OK, too.

Thne auto-correct demeans us. I've said it before and will say it again until it goes, or I go.

Can't we just set up a quick poll to see what the community thinks?

For most of the auto-corrects, I'm torn. They've juvenile (at best), and sometimes make posts very difficult to understand. But they're a longtime tradition here, and occasionally are really funny (particularly when an opposing team's fan shows up here to troll and then gets baffled by the autocorrect). So I could go either way.
However, there's one I strongly encourage keeping, even if we eliminate all the others: the school I wish I had gotten into.

You have my vote (not that anyone cares).

No biggie either way. Though I think I am becoming less fond of them as the number of auto-corrects expands. It was fine when it was just one East Bay school, but now the list includes dozens of things. And many of the auto-corrects are hard to decode.
However, I do suspect that the auto-correct reduces the number of annoying upcoming opponent trolls. As I would guess the trolls hate watching their posts transformed. So my guess is I may not appreciate the deterrent power of the auto-correct.
That is offset by the idea that we do discourage more mild mannered rival fans from posting about upcoming games. And this leaves our board rather one sided with more posts this week on FDR than Army, for example.

The sentiment that I've gotten is that the original posters are (mostly) for it, but they're vastly outnumbered by the newer arrivals who hate it. I think that's what a poll would find.
I think the best solution would for it be an account option. Most forums I've dealt with have a profanity filter that is on by default and can be turned off, it works similarly to this. If we could just get a little box that turns off all the filtering (because, really, I can handle seeing the word "*****" in a thread) that would be perfect. Those who want the filters get them, those who don't, don't.
Also, I still find it funny that with the tagline "We feature more signal, less noise!" we have this ridiculously noisy filter on.

You could remove the autocorrect for posters with more than 25 or so posts. :)

I think my only annoyance with it is when it takes something short, like U-$-C, and converts it into something long, like USC.
I enjoy the 59ers autocorrect, it's as short as the original and doesn't make a sentence any harder to read.
Also, the Davis autocorrect is gone, right?
edit:Â Oh good, it is.

At least until the next time it comes up, which should be in another week or so.
