Is Bloomgren spread too thin? -

Mike Bloomgren has been an awesome offensive line coach, and has deservedly received praise as being the architect of several incredibly effective O-Lines here at Stanford. I wonder, however, if our relatively new linemen need a full time O-line coach. Perhaps his move to head the offense while retaining his old duties with the O-line worked a year ago with an experienced line, but now that we are breaking in 4 linemen, I wonder if Professor O-line needs to be in class more often. Anyone know if he had to dial back his work with the O-line when he took over as Offensive Coordinator?Â
Whether he did nor not, I think we need him teaching "Discipline on the Offensive Line 101" for the next three weeks going in to Washington and Notre Dame.

I always understood that Shaw was the third down and red zone play caller.
The offense looked great for a lot of the game. Inside USC's 32 is where everything went south, but we got within a long FG every time we got the ball.

So I guess the correct title of this thread should be "Is Shaw spread too thin?"

It must be a symptom of the trauma of this game that people jump immediately to play-calling. That is not what I was talking about at all when I asked if Bloomgren was spread too thin.Â
I meant, given the very great need of our offensive line for improvement and their relative inexperience, has Bloomgren been able to spend as much time teaching the new O-line its trade as he needs to? Does having wider responsibilities and not being solely dedicated to the O-line (as he once was) spread him too thin? Could we be seeing symptoms of this in the lack of improvement from the Spring game to the SC game?
Or, alternately, does he spend just as much time coaching the line as ever, and the Offensive Coordinator title does not come into play during the week?Â
I'm curious.

Speaking to your point it appears Tavita is in the pressbox and Bloomgren on the field. Or am I wrong about that? My take is between Shaw, Pritchard and Bloomgren they have a workable arrangement as far as offensive brain trust goes.

You are right about that. I'm wondering more about what happens between games.

I think the title should be "Should Shaw be calling plays any longer?"
