Looks like Carolina Panthers asst WR coach Lance Taylor

Here's his bio: http://www.panthers.com/team/coaches/lance-taylor/244c311d-61fb-4a65-b317-7817150d3b5b

Looks like he has southeastern connections. Coached briefly (as a grad assistant, presumably) with Nick Saban.

I'd be interested to know what Taylor picked up from the Panthers. Schematically they had some not-bad ideas for using Cam Newton as a runner; but then again they often had some WTF? ideas, plays, etc. as well. But most people seemed to blame that on Shula, their OC.

More on Lance Taylor -- He's a Choctaw Indian. He had a 4.0 GPA in high school and was the salutatorian. He has spent 3 years on college coaching staffs at Alabama and Appalachian St., and 4 years in the NFL with the Jets and Panthers.

Is it odd that a WR coach will coach our RBs?  Or is it common for position coaches to switch like that?

Re: And a RB coach hire? - terry - 02-09-2014

I think coaches routinely switch position coaching positions. For example, Derek Mason played DB in college, and has coached RBs, WRs, and DBs. Lance Anderson played linebacker, and has coached RBs, TEs, offensive line, defensive line, and outside linebackers. Pete Alamar has coached RBs, TEs, offensive line, linebackers, and special teams. David Shaw played WR and has coached linebackers, TEs, QBs, WRs, and RBs. And so forth . . .

Does he have to become a Cardinal now, too?

What I like about this hire: he's young, has NFL experience, and is from a region we want to target in recruiting. The current Coaches will help get him up to speed on everything and how  and he can grow, while adding his own insights. If he develops nicely, as Sanford did, he will have a chance to take on more responsibilities, and hopefully serve as an effective recruiter.
