Re: Reynolds leaving - donkey687 - 01-14-2014

Bummer. He will be hard to replace. We have little depth at free safety.  I hope he succeeds and I will root for him, but I would be surprised if he is picked up in the first 4 rounds. He could have been a face of our defense next year. He was certainly over-shadowed by all the attention given to our front 7 this year. If had come back, we would have returned the entire starting secondary which would have been a strength of the team.

Re: Reynolds leaving - OutsiderFan - 01-14-2014

Reynolds had been projected as the #1 FS in the 2015 draft, and he's probably ranked #3 in the 2014 draft.  But the 2015 draft projections exclude Juniors for the most part.  In other words, it's doubtful Reynolds can appreciably improve his stock in the 2014 season, so he might as well go early and be one of the top 3 FS prospects in the 2014 draft, assuming his combine workout numbers are satisfactory.

Re: Reynolds leaving - BigEasyCard - 01-14-2014

I hope that he enjoys great success at the next level.  Also, hope that he has a concrete plan to return eventually and complete his Stanford degree.

Geaux Cardinal!

Re: Reynolds leaving - Hey - 01-14-2014

Bring on the Dallas Lloyd era!  I have fond memories of converted QB's playing safety.

Reynolds is an academic senior, so he may be on track to graduate after this spring, or do so after one more quarter if he takes spring quarter off to work out (as Toby did).

EDIT: From the Stanford Football Facebook page:

"Cam is graduating this spring with his engineering degree in Aero/Astro, while Ed is taking this quarter off to train and will return to school this spring plus one quarter next year to complete his Political Science degree."

So, I was right.  ;D  It doesn't happen often.

Re: Reynolds leaving - StanFan88 - 01-14-2014

I don't think Reynolds will be drafted in the first 3 rounds, which to me would indicate he is making a mistake leaving early.

Safeties in the NFL needs to do two things well - stop the run and play centerfield.  His play at both slipped compared to last year.

Re: Reynolds leaving - needle - 01-14-2014

I think both Reynolds and Fleming are making the right decision, and I thank them for being student-athletes at Stanford.
