Zombie threads - terry - 12-16-2013

What's with these zombie threads? The "Zumwalt is 0-5 against Stanford" thread began two months ago, lasted for one day, then just came back to life yesterday. The "Shaw talk begins in earnest on Wednesday" thread started almost a year ago, died, and rose from the dead after 11 months in the cyber grave.

What's next . . . the resurrection of a "Harbaugh to Kansas" thread? Or maybe a "Buddy must go" thread will come lurching back to life?Â :P

Sadly disappointed.Â I saw the title and was expecting to discuss my post-apocalyptic fashion choices.

Thought this might be a "Walking Dead" thread, since the show is now on "winter hiatus" (side note question - what is "winter hiatus"?).

Or, maybe a thread for those who graduated from, are currently enrolled in, or are interested in (I fit this category) a zombie apocalypse program of study - motorcycle riding and repair, shotgun and pistol shooting, etc.

Very disappointed.

I'm the one who dipped The Shaw Talk thread into the Lazarus Pit.Â I did it deliberately because I thought it would be amusing to see this subject come back to life every year, and hopefully for many years.

Granted that thread, much like other undead, didn't come back to life in its original form.Â Somehow the topic drifted to the San Jose State game and Chip Kelly.

It's my fault.Â I haven't kept up with Cardboard threads in a while, so I recently went through and read through all the updated threads I hadn't read yet, and I commented on a few.

Though recently I have added long range rifle studies (100-300 yards) and am adding Bow Hunting For food to my list. AZ is an easy state to pursue these courses in.

Hmm. If I was looking at the Z.A. program, I'd hope there was a track on structural reinforcement, or maybe retail foraging.Â Always interested me more...but maybe I'm just a hippie.

I'm still in Target Archery, haven't advanced to Bow Hunting yet.Â I have Basic Rifle and Basic Handgun down though.Â Also have EMT-Basic training and Boy Scout wilderness survival skills.Â Put me in, coach.

OK if there's a zombie apocalypse, I'm walking to Austin to find fullmetal, and then we'll hike together to Arizona to find SUBuddha.

I don't have anything to contribute other than snarky comments about U$C and the ultimate watch for the apocalypse.Â It's solar powered.Â I might not be much help hunting, but if you want to know the time, temperature, altitude, and barometric pressure, I'm your guy.

I kinda feel like Emily Nussbaum...the Walking Dead is severely disappointing after a great first season...

While we're on the subject, can somebody explain to me this whole fascination with zombies?Â Vampires I get (though I'm no fan with the exception of Selene).

Coolest undead is the Lich, yet the only popular example is He Who Shall Not Be Named.Â From Harry Potter. Not Stanford football.Â The Stanford one is quite powerless.

Wow. For me the zombie appeal is crystal clear. Most horror stories draw on the idea of some single exceptional lone standout that is causing the havoc. An eternal and tired concept... wow, Super zappo radioactive man. What would that be like? ... But a Zombie movie is about when an entire population is the problem. Half of the country, 90% of the country, has gone mad. And the protagonist is the only normal one -- heroically defending or reconstructing "normal life" with duct tape and plywood. I've loved it since I saw night of the living dead...

Zombie apocalypses certainly appeal to the survivalists leftover from the Y2K craze :)Â A mindless army of pure evil is a simple antagonist--no need to develop the villain's character or humanize zombies, which are by definition, soulless.Â Overwhelming odds, resource constraints, and moral dilemmas...the stuff of drama.
