I gotta say, I agree a lot with the analysis though it seemed harsh at first read.

Haven't read the whole thing, but the first several paragraphs strike me as a little misguided. If the big point is the failure of our first drive, I don't think it's particularly accurate to call what would have been a perfectly-executed 80 or so yard TD pass play "stupid," when the indisputable reason that it didn't result in a score was that it was simply dropped. My feeling is that that one play turned the game around; the rest was just playing out the inevitable. I think the change in the Coliseum noise level from immediately before to immediately after -- had the ball been caught and the TD scored -- would have come close to 2007.Â
Alas, it didn't happen...but it wasn't stupidity, it was failure of execution.
Along those lines.... -

I wonder about talent gaps.

Is it really a coaching failure that there are no tight ends? I suppose it depends on what you mean by "coaching failure" -- part of the problem was Harbaugh's inability to secure a TE in 2011 and Shaw's inability to secure a real one in 2012 -- but, you know, there are going to be holes in your college football team.* It's inherent to the sport. I'd still say our 2010 team was the definitive Stanford team, and that team played Marecic both ways. The question isn't, "are there holes on your team," but "how do you coach and play around them?" I don't think Shaw's done an exactly exemplary job there, but the article is way too overheated.
(Unless you're 'bama or other recruiting juggernaut.)

Much like CFB teams all have holes, blog posts inevitably have fallacies. But that's no reason to dismiss the entire post. This one makes some very valid points (some of which have been made here by some of us as well).
