Some pretty incredible talk from a guy who cried on national TV... [at least I think it was him]
By the way, that makes at least two of us who don't want him to play in the Rose Bowl...Â

It's possible that Arizona, Oregon State or the winner of the South will grant him his wish. We're pulling for you, Josh!

Wow, that's pretty ridiculous. I'm glad our players aren't that classless.

Say what you want about Chip Kelly, but he would never have allowed his players to look ahead of the next game.Â
This points right back at Helfrich.Â

There is a bright side ... We can take direct credit for ruining Josh's holiday plans.
(Or providing him with a "teachable moment" if you're a glass half full type.)

It sounds like latter-day SC under Pete Carroll. I remember Rey Maualuga of the '08-'09 SC team -- which I maintain was the best team in the country that year; its missing the national championship was surely a wake-up call to the conference about its perceived standing -- complaining about the exact same thing. "Uh, the Rose Bowl
again?!?" As it happened, things fell apart for SC soon afterwards. I surely wouldn't mind the same for Oregon.
Of course, the key difference, I would argue, is that while such feelings are never desirable, they were a bit more understandable for SC at the time. They really were dominant. They really had gone to the Rose Bowl a lot. They really had proven themselves on the national stage. While the Ducks are the first among equals in the Pac-12 and have earned themselves some self-esteem, they haven't proven themselves to nearly the same degree as Carroll's T.rojans.

Ted Miller of the Pac-12 blog just posted a mailbag entry in which the writer compares DAT and Josh Huff to Marie Antoinette and Leona Helmsley. :D

Says he only wants to play in the Rose Bowl if it is the BCS CG. Maybe he'll have another game that makes him cry on the sidelines in Tucson today so he won't have to play in a game beneath him and his teammates.

You really ought to read the CardBoard more often.

I hope they end up in the Kraft Macaroni Bowl. The perfect setting for their cheesy offense.

Sometimes, you get what you wish for.

You can't always get what you want....
...But if you try sometime...
You get what you need.

Go Beavers! Maybe Ducks would enjoy El Paso just as much as trojans did last year.

Do you think Helf will institute some new rules regarding statements made by players. They've really stuck their foot in it this season.

Here is Helfrich's statement after the loss today:
Quote:Thomas and Huff each expressed disappointment before the Arizona game about having to play for only the Rose Bowl after Stanford's loss last week to USC and not the national championship.
"Part of that was ignorance, part of that was out of context, part of that was guys, way it was phrased," Helfrich said. "It's not representative of how anybody feels. That was never any bit of ... wasn't a team-wide deal at all. we've dealt with that. That had nothing to do with this."
That is a weak response in my opinion. They damn well said it and it had everything to do with getting ground into sausage today in Tucson. Any team anywhere looking beyond the next game isn't mentally ready to play that game.

It will be interesting to see how the team responds to going to a 2nd tier bowl game. They may have a tough year ahead of then in 2014. They're losing a lo of talent to the draft, and the Chip Kelly magic will be fading quickly. Something tells me that Helfich isn't able to embody the WTD mentality like CK.
Addicted to Quake had a pretty good piece about how this game was the end of an era. It's the first time Oregon has lost to a non-elite team in 4-5 years. Their losses since '09 have been to Stanford, Boise, LSU, Auburn, and US.C. You could argue that Stanford in '09 was not elite, but I think the point is fair. They're not longer seen as invincible or that the offensive onslaught is inevitable.

And I must say, it was great to see Baylor get blown out today too. All these offenses that feast on bad defenses being exposed is good for college football in general, and Stanford in particular.

Baylor was exposed in a big way tonight. I'm with you OF, they got what they deserved.  I'm curious to see how far they fall and think they will lose one more before the year ends.   They would have at least 3 losses if they were in the P12, maybe more.Â
As for the Ducks, hubris! Let's go UofA! I want ASU here on Dec 7. Thanks Wildcats!

The Ducks and their fans are having an existential meltdown right now. Oh how the mighty have fallen!
