Movement in the polls -
washingtonismoney - 10-19-2013
Louisville. Loses.
Texas A&M. Loses.
South Carolina. Loses.
UCLA. Loses.
One of FSU and Clemson -- will lose.
So at least five losses for teams in front of us in the polls. We'll be making a move back up!
Re: Movement in the polls -

KZSU said that worst case, we will be 10th or 11th in the AP poll.
But definitely in the top 10 in the BCS poll.
Re: Movement in the polls -

Stanford is 11th in the
simulated BCS rankings this week.
With TAMU, UCLA, Louisville, and Clemson/FSU ahead of us losing, we should be up to 8-6th on Sunday.
Yay!

And Stanford beat Wilner's #4 team right in front of him. That is satisfying.

Would be really nice if the SEC carnage continues with LSU going down to Ole Miss....

I can totally see voters using that to justify putting 10 SEC teams in the rankings. My goodness no matter who wins or loses in that conference, voters only see it as a reason to rank them higher...
Re: Movement in the polls - pincemob - 10-19-2013
The SEC mystique is crazy. I would have thought after last year, with Texas A&M (a middle of the road Big 12 team) coming in and lighting up the league that folks would have acknowledged that the SEC is not on another level. Instead, they crown Johnny Manziel (future NFL practice squad player) the greatest freshman QB of all time. Now you have another mediocre Big 12 program in Missouri lighting up the league. Does the media take this as another sign that perhaps the SEC is not the equivalent of an NFL conference? No, and Missouri will probably leapfrog us in the polls this week. You do have to admire the marketing job by the conference and by ESPN, it's working somehow.Â

Jesse Palmer just said "Stanford is still alive in the BCS hunt." If The Bachelor said it, must be true. He knows football, right? It's not like he's trying to get some girl's name right in the Rose Ceremony.
Re: Movement in the polls - Cardinal96 - 10-19-2013
LSU just lost and Clemson is getting clown-stomped. We are 13 now. We will almost certainly pass: A&M, LSU, Louisville, UCLA and South Carolina. We will likely pass Clemson. We may get passed by Missouri (they are 1 spot behind us and are undefeated following a top 25 win over an over-rated Florida team). So I expect us to be number 7 or 8 in the polls.

Your wish is granted. 24-27 Ole Miss

Teams ranked 3, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11 all lost, and Miami barely beat 1-4 UNC.
Stanford is probably a Top 5 team afterall, and I think better than Ohio State too.

Its been an epic day of "upsets" and would be cool to get right back into the Top 5, but Stanford will get all it wants if they win out. Just keep winning. I know they need a little help getting to the NCG but as Shaw says its about winning the P12 - I agree with this.
Its gotta suck being ND and your post season hopes are ALWAYS in the hands of voters and computers.

Baylor should probably pass us as well.Â

Just saw on SportsCenter that we're expected to be #6 in the BCS, highest 1-loss team. Projections like that aren't worth much, but it'd be nice.

Actually this BCS stuff is still a popularity game, so it is important. Stanford will not be #6 in the human polls, but I would expect humans to move Stanford up later to align to the BCS rankings. The good news is that there is a lot to play for, and the computers will always be there to help a 1 loss Stanford.
The team, of course, just needs to focus on going 1-0 each week.Â
Up next - Beavers. The Beavers looked GREAT against UCB, but apparently everyone looks great against UCB.Â

The Beavers on the road looked better than the Bruins at home against UCB.

I wish Stanford was playing UCB next week. They are clearly done for the year. Their defense has a bunch of offensive back-ups in starting roles now. Even Dykes has now said that he is happy it is Year #1, with the implication that winning is not essential at this point in a coach's contract.
Mannion is a very good passing QB, so his abilities were ideal to exploit the new UCB starters and their lack of desire to win every snap/series/game. Hundley is great, but he relies heavily on broken plays and scrambling. And I would guess that the UCB players were more comfortable playing against that style since technique and scheme are less important than raw physical ability.
I also suspect that at this point it is easier for UCB to play on the road. On the road they KNOW the fans will be against them. I think it is hard for a team playing for almost nothing to get excited about playing in front of the UCB band and a bunch of "gold" tinted aluminum.
Re: Movement in the polls -
OutsiderFan - 10-20-2013
Stanford will hammer Oregon State. Cal has the worst lines maybe in all of FBS, Oregon State can't run the ball, Mannion is not a running threat, and their DL isn't very big.
Mason's whole philosophy is stop the run and rush the passer. He doesn't care much about passing yards outside the red zone either. Cal was so unconcerned about the Beavers running that they routinely blitzed. Stanford is better everywhere than Cal and we have seen many examples of the Stanford defense putting the vice on high powered offenses.Â
As for Baylor, they have played nobody. Let's see how they do against OU and Texas, the only two teams they play with a pulse other than maybe Texas Tech. Stanford has three victories over ranked (at the time) opponents, and likely another one in Oregon State in the making.
It's fair to say the Utah game was a bit of an anomaly at this point. If Stanford were to run the table they would be in contention for the CG. A one loss Stanford is better than an undefeated Ohio State in the computers, but for my money, Florida State is the best team not named Alabama, and they may even be better than them anyway. Winston is a prodigy and he has a loaded team around him.

Going to Corvallis is going to be extremely tough this was the game that worried me most all year(yes even more than Oregon). I am happy we were able to put away UCLA in non-dramatic fashion we have time to recharge our batteries.

The past tells us if you're gonna lose a game, better to lose early and a fluke against an unranked team.
Don't tell my friends from Ohio, I might start cheering against the Buckeyes soon.
