Predict the score: Stanford Vs Arizona State - Gauss - 09-18-2013

Another week, another prediction!
I think I'll start the prediction threads on Wednesdays. This way people have cooled off and had time to think about last week's games implications, while there's still enough time for everyone to make their predictions.

As you can see in the results thread, Griffin78 is leading the Cardinal predictions on the back of his/her perfect San Jose St score, but Leftcoast and FarmBoy are close behind.
I'm in the bottom half of the table  :(

Next Saturday 21st at 4PM PDT, Stanford hosts Arizona State. Vegas expects Stanford to win 29-21.5 (why they'd expect fractional points is beyond me ;)).
By the way, short game descriptions will be used to break the official tiebreakers and to make the read of this thread more interesting!

My prediction is:
Stanford's defense is going to start clicking, but ASU is not Army so they bad guys score 14. We'll have too many stalled drives in which we will be missing our reliable tight ends from other years, but still manage to squeak a win 17-14.

Re: Predict the score: Stanford Vs Arizona State - FarmBoy - 09-18-2013

I'm feeling optimistic. Stanford 34, ASU 20

But really, I have not clue as I've watched so little of ASU that I'm very uninformed on the team.

Stanford, 36-20

Re: Predict the score: Stanford Vs Arizona State - Cardinal96 - 09-18-2013

I would love to be proven wrong but I think this game will be very close.

31-24 Stanford

Re: Predict the score: Stanford Vs Arizona State - Extra Point - 09-18-2013

27 - 17 Stanford

Re: Predict the score: Stanford Vs Arizona State - pcgoode - 09-18-2013

ASU's best win in the last 12 months has been a dubious victory against Wisconsin at home.  The Cardinal burns ASU's blitzing defence with a variety of short passes to Gaffney and Hewitt.  Secondary gets at least one INT.  35 to 20, Cardinal victory.

Re: Predict the score: Stanford Vs Arizona State - GoodGrief - 09-18-2013

I should have participated earlier, damnit.

Stanford 27, ASU 10.

Wilkerson breaks free for an 80 yard touchdown. Let it be done.

Re: Predict the score: Stanford Vs Arizona State - martyup - 09-18-2013

This is a pivotal game for this season.  Time to reveal whether we really are an elite program that belongs in the top 5.  ASU will give us a good test.  They ran over 90 offensive plays against WI.  We've got to be able to deal with that kind of pace if we hope to beat Oregon.  I'm a believer.  I hope our Angry Nerds are believers.

Stanford 45
ASU 28

Something tells me this game will be pretty tight. I am going 28-24 Stanford.

Re: Predict the score: Stanford Vs Arizona State - JeffInCorvallis - 09-18-2013

Stanford 30 ASU 27      Gaffney 2TDs, Montgomery 1TD, clutch FG from Williamson

Re: Predict the score: Stanford Vs Arizona State - CompSci87 - 09-18-2013

OK, being in last place due to always predicting 42-0 isn't that much fun after all.

I'll go with Stanford 31-13.

Re: Predict the score: Stanford Vs Arizona State - Leftcoast - 09-18-2013

Stanford 24, ASU 13

I'm hoping our defense forces ASU to settle for Field Goals rather than TDs on most of their long drives and our offense begins hitting on more of it's available cylinders.  We don't need a perfect game to beat ASU but we need to see growth beyond the Army/SJ State performance.  ASU is our FIRST step up .... to meet our season goals we will need to see a few more between now and November.

By the way, for me success this season is still earning a Rose Bowl berth.  The Rose Bowl is in the team's control while an NC bid is dependent upon winning a post season popularity contest that is outside of Stanford's hands.  Nice if you get it but ....

If Stanford wins out they will almost certainly go.  SEC is the only conference that will have more brownie points than the PAC this year.

You would consider going to the Fiesta Bowl and beating a one loss or even an undefeated team as unsuccessful?

Re: Predict the score: Stanford Vs Arizona State - OutsiderFan - 09-18-2013

Given how wrong I have been, why stop now?

I don't think Stanford pulled out all the stops against SJSU or Army.  ASU struggled a lot against an inferior to Stanford team in Wisconsin (and by rights should have lost), and ASU has a history of playing horribly in California.
