I can't take the waiting. Stanford will be the last school to start the football season with the 8:00 p.m. start. I will have to compensate by starting our tailgate party early . . . maybe as early as tonight.Â
Cheers,
Pete F.

Console yourself with the thought that we may well be the last school to finish the season, too.

The biggest problem for us East Coasters besides the late starts is if Stanford wins a heart-stopper (e.g. Oregon last year), your system gets so pumped full of adrenaline that you can't sleep. Of course, I'd rather not sleep than cry myself to sleep (e.g. Washington last year).

From the "where were you when...." department: Last year's Oregon game fell on a cub scout camp out trip night. It didn't start until later, so luckily the kids were in their bunks and I spent basically 3.5 hours freezing my butt off and hitting "refresh" on my phone browser. Near the end of the game I was getting close to running out of juice, so I would turn my phone off for 15 minutes and turn it back on to get an update. I remember the long delay when Ertz's catch was overturned. I was wondering why the hell ESPN wasn't updating for the next play already! The description provided in the play-by-play for the OT was so befuddling I almost couldn't believe it was accurate. I didn't end up falling asleep until 2-3am.

That was my big no-sleep night, too....mostly from calling all the bedwetters who'd found better things to do than watch the expected ritualized slaughter.
