Opponent attrition, ND edition - terry - 08-17-2013

NotreDame lost two players. Starting linebacker Danny Spond retired for medical reasons. Linebacker Doug Randolph will miss the season with an injury. Both were Stanford recruits at one point.

They've had a pretty awful offseason -- they've lost two starters and are down to 12 returning, they've lost quite a bit of depth too. #14 is looking a bit generous now for them.

I actually think they are a bit underrated they return 7 starters on D, and their D is what made them a 12-1 team

I recall Spond suffered some kind of terrible injury in his senior year of HS (I think a head injury that required some hospitalization.) At the time, people wondered if he should or could continue playing football. I'm assuming the note in the article about Spond battling migraines and concussions could have something to do with that. I hope he does not end up suffering migraines for the rest of his life, given what we hear now about the long term impact of concussions.  Good luck to him.

Here's somebody who agrees with you, assuming you can get past the fact it is on Bleacher Report.

Their D made them an 11-2 team.  The referees made them a 12-1 team.  ;)

I think you mean 10-2, good sir. 10-2.

All I can say to all this is that let's go out and dominate them this year to the extent that a couple of bad calls aren't going to lose the game for us.

Because officials, being human, are always going to make mistakes.

I agree with Garvin on this based on an article I read a few weeks ago.  I also believe that they have a lot of young defensive talent, so we can assume high quality depth.Â
