Puts some numbers on what we already know. There are very few of us.

Thanks for posting. This is interesting data. Assuming these are roughly accurate, it's kind of a marvel that Stanford sells out its 50K seat stadium considering there are only 344K "fans." Getting 1 in 7 to the game is kind of remarkable (yes, I know that isn't adjusted for visiting fans or the non-fan who decides to attend the game.)

This simply points out the need for marketing to put people in the seats who don't otherwise have a direct connection to Stanford.Â
I was surprised that the numbers for Oregon were as low as they were. Their marketing/hype machine seems to have built a brobdingnagian contingent of boisterous fans, many of whom are not alums or otherwise associated with the university. Winning consistently will do that. Apparently, even if you pay for "recruiting services".

I question some of the methodology of this analysis. But in any event, it's two years old. After the success Stanford has had in the last two seasons, I would think we would have bigger numbers today.

Six stadium's worth of fans = the approx. fan base size? That's OK, from boxers to football teams to naval ships to politicians, I like guys who " fight above their weight". Sorry Chris Christie. I get a kick out of watching schools that have all the fan base advantages and fight below their weight. From football performance to football and university financial support, I'm lookin' at
you, C..al fans and grads.
