The NCAA championship streak - terry - 05-22-2013

Stanford's streak now has been extended to 37 straight years with at least one NCAA championship. Some perspective on the streak --

These are the longest overall NCAA championship streaks, so far as I've been able to determine:

Stanford                37  1976-77 to 2012-13 (active)
U.S.C.                  19    1959-60 to 1977-78
North Carolina      18    1980-81 to 1997-98
Arkansas              17  1983-84 to 1999-2000
UCLA                    13  1963-64 to 1975-76
UCLA                    13  1980-81 to 1992-93
LSU                      11  1986-87 to 1996-97
Denver                10  1959-60 to 1968-69
UCLA                    10    2002-03 to 2011-12 (active, but could end this year)
Yale                        9    1904-05 to 1912-13
U.S.C.                    9    1934-35 to 1942-43
UTEP                      9    1973-74 to 1981-82
Iowa                      9    1977-78 to 1985-86
Texas                      9    1982-83 to 1990-91

These appear to be the longest active streaks:

Stanford              37  1976-77 to 2012-13
UCLA                  10    2002-03 to 2011-12 (could end this year)
Penn State            7    2006-07 to 2012-13
U.S.C.                  6    2007-08 to 2012-13

Re: The NCAA championship streak - Kathy - 05-22-2013

How many NCs does UCLA have in total?

Re: The NCAA championship streak - terry - 05-22-2013

UCLA has 108 NCAA championships, Stanford has 104, U.S.C. has 97 (and currently leads in women's golf).

Interestingly, at the very same time we were getting #104 in Women's Tennis by a 4-3 margin [and keeping our top-ranked streak alive], UCLA LOST #109 in Men's Tennis to Virginia by the same margin [jeopardizing their second-ranked streak].

It is very hard for me to believe U.S.C. will not get that women's golf title at this point.
