Muncie was part of a Chargers team in January 1982 that played one of the best football games I ever watched - a playoff game against the Dolphins in the Orange Bowl. Great memories.

Big, fast, smooth, could catch, would go for tough yards although he was so good that most of the time he had space to run. Played with Joe Roth as QB. Great Kal team. Could pass and run. Not many better runners even in their prime. Some of the current Voldemort winners are pygmies compared to him.Â
And yet, Kal hasn't been to a Rose Bowl since 1959. Some schools don't deserve the great players they get.

Ahh the Freezer Bowl. My favorite Cincinnati Bengals game of all time. 8) There aren't that many to love. :(

My first boyhood hero to let me down, I knew him first and foremost as a great Charger and secondly as a flawed guy who struggled with life. They say he turned things around in the ways that mattered most. I'm pretty sure he is the only Kal football guy I've ever truly cared about, and it's a really sad day to hear he's gone.

The entire field seemed like pygmies compared to Muncie. He seemed so big and fast and hard to bring down. It was scary seeing him run with the ball.

In 1975 Kal led the nation in offense. On the last play of the season Roth was sacked for a couple of yards, giving Kal exactly 2,522 yards passing and 2,522 yards running.
Muncie rushed for 1,460 that year, averaging 6.4 per carry. And completed 3 of 3 passes for 143 yards and 2 TDs.
