SI.com: Ten things to watch for at the NFL draft -
fullmetal - 04-25-2013
This author ranks Stepfan as the 7th best back in the draft.Â
Quote:Here are the top 10 running backs to watch:
1. Eddie Lacy, Alabama
2. Montee Ball, Wisconsin
3. Andre Ellington, Clemson
4. Johnathan Franklin, UCLA
5. Giovani Bernard, North Carolina
6. Marcus Lattimore, South Carolina
7. Stepfan Taylor, Stanford
8. Le'Veon Bell, Michigan State
9. Joseph Randle, Oklahoma State
10. Kniles Davis, Arkansas
Can you spot both errors in this list?
Quote:Here are the top 10 wide receivers to watch:
1. Tavon Austin, West Virginia
2. Keenan Allen, California
3. Cordarrelle Patterson, Tennessee
4. DeAndre Hopkins, Clemson
5. Quinton Patton, Louisiana Tech
6. Robert Woods, Southern California
7. Justin Hunter, Tennessee
8. Terrance Williams, Baylor
9. Markus Wheaton, Oregon
10. Stedman Bailey, West Virginia
Finally, Ertz gets a mention at the end as the second of two premier tight ends in the draft, behind Eifert. Of course, Eifert gets some limelight, and Ertz is fairly neglected.Â

Hoping that the Colts draft Kulabafi and Chase, and that the Niners draft Ertz. The Pats are set at RB, LB, and TE so I don't see them taking any Stanford guys. To my knowledge and oddly for a guy who supposedly prizes intelligence, Belichick has never had a Stanford grad on his roster in New England. As for my first NFL love, the Bungles, I do not wish them upon any Stanford football player.

Markus Wheaton, Oregon (opps?) - I am sure the people from Corvallis are ecstatic knowing that their star player from last year is alligned with their most hated rival on this list.

I think Will Svitek is on the Pats' roster now. I hope he sticks.

Yup. Markus Wheaton was an OSU WR, not a UO WR. The second error would be ranking Keenan Allen as the 2nd best WR in the draft. I wouldn't really trust a WR from kal...

He might be better than we think. I've only seen him play 3 times. Each time against a nasty defense. And we all know how bad QB play has been across the bay.

I just don't think he's the second best receiver in this draft. Woods from U$C, you'll note, is a distant 6th. I also like Williams (Baylor) and Bailey (WVU). Wheaton (OSU) is pretty good too. But you're right in that Allen didn't have good QB play...

Keenan Allen would not be on my draft board. He's a top talent, however he's demonstrated very poor judgment and a very poor work ethic. He apparently failed a combine drug test. And this was on the heels of selecting Tedford over Saban so he could play with his half brother Zach Maynard.
Too many red flags for my taste, but he is a truly gifted athlete without any question.

Let's consult with a noted expert: young David Shaw. Dave, what's your opinion of 59er receivers?:
Quote:During training camp in 1999, when the Raiders cut receiver Dameane Douglas, a fourth-round draft pick out of California, Gruden recalled that Shaw said: He went to C.al. What did you expect?
Wise man.

Based on a highly limited sample size of games that I saw (3), both Jonathan Franklin and Stepfan Taylor are better backs than Montee Ball :-) at least in college - that may or may not translate to the NFL.

No idea my Bungles wanted a TE when they already have a Pro Bowl TE on the roster. Count me glad that Eifert went ahead of Ertz now.

Are football players generally happier with larger contracts/less successful teams, or would they rather be picked later in the draft by more successful teams?

Unless you're Tom Brady.

There, FTWY, stupac.
Brady gets far too much credit for taking a pay cut, IMO.

Because Rodgers is going to make diddly-poop on endorsements.
Any of the top QBs could do what Brady did and be financially secure. They don't.
