Women's gymnastics, women's water polo, softball, baseball, men's volleyball, women's swimming (4?), and women's tennis will add points for the Cardinal.

I'm also concerned about our string of NCAA championships.  What's the Cardinal's best chance to extend that string?  (I'm assuming the Synchronized Swimming championship was not in an NCAA sanctioned sport.)

I think women's WoPo  has the best shot.  It would be great to keep that streak rolling.  How many championships has UCLA won this year?  We were gaining on them in the 90's, but that seems to have fallen off of late.  Swimming and tennis have fallen in recent times with coaching changes and more international players being recruited.

Unless the scoring rules have changed, though, women's water polo and men's volleyball are feast/famine propositions -- only the Final Four teams get points, and fourth isn't worth much.  Moreover, at least in men's volleyball, only two spots in the Final Four would be available to Stanford.  Right now, women's water polo looks good, but men's volleyball is pretty iffy.  Also, baseball and softball will likely be in post-season, but high finishes are by no means guaranteed.

Terry was right about Oregon not being a threat [at least so far] -- they appear to have dropped like a rock [now tenth].

North Carolina, of course, is the only OTHER team ever to have won a Director's Cup.

I just read the release. Swimming and diving is already computed in. I think what it comes down to is scoring enough points in baseball and softball to keep them at bay.

I attended the women's water polo match this past Saturday between then #2 Stanford and then #1 and undefeated USC.  It was a high level, high stakes match.  Over the past several years, these two teams have clearly been the best in the country.  USC handed Stanford its only loss earlier this season.  I think there were at least 5 Olympians in the water between the two teams.

Stanford won 6-4 with a stellar defensive effort.  USC had scored 13 goals in the earlier win over Stanford.  Regardless of the sport, it is always a treat to witness Stanford victories on the USC campus!

We can expect Stanford and USC to match up twice more this season - the MPSF championship next weekend in Berkeley (Stanford will be the top seed) and the NCAA final in Boston two weeks later.  The result will probably determine whether or not the consecutive NCAA championship streak continues, although keep an eye on the men's golf team.  If they play at a high level, they have the talent to win especially given the odd format of the golf championship which combines stroke and match play.
