Could this be a Stanford QB? - OutsiderFan - 04-03-2013

Travon McMillian is the #6 rated Junior in Virginia as a QB/ATH, with a 3.5+ GPA.  He had 13 offers before visiting the two Bay Area Pac-12 outfits this past week; he wants to go to one of these schools because he sees himself as an engineering major.  Cal has offered him as a Safety even though he wants to play QB and is going to have many options to play QB elsewhere.

My question is would Stanford offer this kid as a QB or offer him as an athlete with an opportunity to play QB, or would Stanford also offer him as a non-QB because Stanford doesn't really want a dual threat QB given the offer to Chryst?

I think it'd be similar to Darren Daniel a few years back -- give a chance to play QB, but with the possibility of playing another position. I'm not sure how the Chryst domino affects McMillian.

Just inference, but listening to Shaw's interviews, he seems to be intrigued by the idea of mobile QBs in a pro-style offense. Certainly Hogan, Lloyd and Burns all fit that mold (revealing in the other direction is declining to recruit Max Browne, who's pretty statuesque.)

I do not think that word means what you think it means!

Well, statues are not generally very mobile...  :)

and Burns might think you're kind of purty too, BEC.

McMillian apparently told a Cal reporter Stanford would offer him as a DB, just like Cal has, and he expects Alabama will.

But don't think McMillian is Tuscaloosa-bound, as he offered a quote the readers of this board will love:

"Alabama's probably going to offer me soon. They like me as a DB. I'm not really interested though. They aren't very good academically, so I'm not going to consider them."

I'm not sure anything other than maybe the hard science/engr majors at Bama are academically rigorous.  And even then, I'm making an assumption.  Professors in the sci/engr fields tend to take pride in weeding out the weak...
