Chiney had 23 points and 21 rebounds, not to mention 4 assists, 2 steals (one on a coast-to-coast layup as the 1st half buzzer sounded) and finally 4 blocks. Zounds.
Of concern is a possible concussion for Bonnie, who tried to take a charge, got called for a blocking foul, and crashed to the floor with her head taking a bounce. She immediately clutched her head and went to the bench. Up to then she had been 3/7 from three.Â
Sara James got red hot from three point range tonight and was our second leading scorer on 5/8 from three point range. She played 28 minutes, and seemed to have one of her best games.Â
Mikaela Ruef had 7 assists. The High-Low game was working pretty well between Ruef and Chiney off and on all night. It was pretty to watch. One mirthful moment happened when Chiney dished to Reuf who got the basket-and-one. They laughed at the turnabout.
Amber was 2/2 from three and had 6 assists, to go with four turnovers. Tara said at half time that she thought that Amber needed to cut to the basket more. But she didn't do that in the second half much--whether the defense changed I can't say.Â
Joslyn had her usual game. No points in the first half but 10 in the second. I can't for the life of me figure it out. If we were to chart Joslyn's scoring over the season I bet we would find some astronomically high percentage of it coming after halftime. She was the beneficiary of an extraordinary behind-the-back pass from Chiney on a breakaway which left them all laughing.
Looking at this game overall, there were a few times when I thought we might break the game wide open, but WSU kept hanging in and narrowed the lead to a mere eight points with a minute to go in the first half. Galdeira is an amazing frosh, and we can expect to have to worry about her for another three years. Obviously we did not defend her all that well--she had 18 points on 7/16 shooting even though she was limited in minutes by fouls and injury.Â
I was very happy to see a lot of players other than Chiney successfully involved in the offense, and pleased that we shot over 50%. I was worried to see Bonnie's tumble, and I'm not pleased that we had 16 turnovers to WSU's 9. That seemed to show a lack of focus.
All in all, we beat WSU by an identical margin and almost identical score to C.al putting away U.SC. I sense a collision on the way.

A lot to like about how the team is playing. First series, Chiney flows into a jumper from the foul line. Nice progress, it was open and she takes the jumper(and makes it too). Sara with really nice over-play defense on Galderia's strong hand, resulting in 2 fouls on her and a seat on the bench (and Sara with17 points after missing a shot and a turnover early; nice way to stay with it and keep playing). Really good entry passes from Reuf; catchable and just far enough away from the defense.
Lots of nice decisively aggressive open play from the team.
Keep it going.

I haven't heard how Bonnie is, we really need her. But I'm thrilled about Taylor's play the past couple of weeks. So much more aggressive.Â
Those who didn't like our brand new offense this year now see how it's taking shape just excellent ball movement. Of course it gets tougher now with Colorado tonightÂ

I watched the game at Old Pros at the one TV carrying the game. We all enjoyed it, but we kept wondering, "Why is Chiney still in the game", esp. after Bonnie went down. 38 minutes for Chiney in the first of (knock, knock) 3 games in 3 days. In that first half that some are questioning, Stanford shot 44.4% FG% and 38.5% 3PT% while holding WSU to 31.4% FG% and 10% 3PT%, and led by 12. Not bad. The 2nd half was even better: 60% FG% and 62.5% 3PT%.
To me, the bothersome thing is WSU got 15 more shots than we did. Essentially, both teams got the same % of offensive rebounds (37%) and defensive rebounds (64%). But, that is an improvement over the previous game, where Stanford was 32% and a poor 59%.
The Stanford turnovers & WSU rebounds weren't from the last minute of the game.
WSU was credited with 12 points off fast breaks, high for the season against us. So was the 30 bench points by WSU. Our 10 3-pointers was high for the season. We gave up 60 points for the first time since Feb. 1.
Just to remind people, the scores against Colorado were 57-40 and 69-56. We split on the rebounding battle. The most steals against us were at Colorado, with the other game above average.
Maybe Tara left Chiney in to get a 20-20 game. But she achieved that with 3:26 left in the game, well after Bonnie went down and well before she was pulled.
