Garvin, no summer soldier or sunshine patriot is he.  He is STANFORD nation's Winter Soldier.

Based on comments from significant Beaver boosters up here in Oregon, Mr. Robinson will not be coaching in Corvallis next year.  And, I was hoping it was his brother in law would lose his job....

It was great to see the First Lady's brother!  Really exciting to see the extended POTUS family out and about.  Wish they had focused more on him and less on those kids walking around with that orange ball.  ;)

Garvin -- has Stanford ever fired a men's basketball coach with a winning record?

I really think he'll be gone if this team doesn't make the NCAAs. That would mean five years, no NCAAs, likely never finishing in the top half of the conference (don't underrate that one), attendance awful...it's a very, very defensible firing. The only question is if Muir has a guy in mind who he thinks he can get to come to Stanford. I would be shocked if he doesn't think he does, so I would be shocked if Dawkins is at Stanford next year.

That said, I'm still rooting for a miracle and this team making the NCAAs.

Yeah, I'm surprised so many people are sure Dawkins won't get fired. Play the old Keynes game with the stock market -- instead of trying to figure out what other people think, figure out what's the most reasonable interpretation of the situation. It's pretty obvious that Dawkins' performance is below recent historical standards of the program; nor is there any obvious shock to the system that would make these standards (or even a bit worse, e.g. tournament three out of five years, we'll say) unattainable. Moreover, the fans have signalled their preferences -- they aren't coming to the games and aren't talking about the games, which is perhaps worse. So you fire him.

Muir hasn't said anything about the subject, but then again he hasn't really been asked. No reason to alter your priors from a naive reading of the situation.

Johnny Dawkins is so bad, that I'd rather have Daryl Dawkins coaching the MBB team.

I'm sure Muir will get rid of Dawkins sooner rather than later.  Muir is a hoops man, and this is really his only opportunity to accomplish something beyond being a caretaker.

I think somebody here said that his extension didn't have any penalties to early termination.

Darnit.

Stanford falls by 11 to Oregon.

And the game wasn't nearly that close.

No, it was Jon Wilner speculating as to the reasons Dawkins was given an extension.  Other websites & blogs have referenced that column by Wilner, but since the contract is not public there's no way to know if it's true. I can't imagine Dawkins signing a meaningless extension that would let Stanford off the hook for a buyout.

Re: Stanford? And Oregon State? Basketball? - Farm93 - 02-23-2013

Yawn!!!  Men's Volleyball was playing in Provo on BYUTV at the same time.  Stanford ultimately lost the game, but that was a far more entertaining contest.

Stanford basketball is now a bubble NIT team.  I would guess that as defending NIT champs Stanford might get a little boost, but it is not certain that Stanford even makes it to the NIT.

Now that Ray Lewis is retired from the NFL, can he become our coach?

Last year, he was  "p***ed off for greatness."  This year, we're all just p***ed off.  Period.
