Chip Kelly to Eagles...maybe real this time? -
PrinceLightfoot - 01-16-2013
Just reported at 11 AM CST over ESPN Radio. That will make winning the PAC12 North a little easier going forward.

Chip Kelly to Eagles...maybe real this time? -
Kirk72 - 01-16-2013
ESPN is reporting that Chip Kelly is heading to the Eagles. No official statement yet but this looks legitimate. I'll try to post a link shortly. Very interested to see what changed his mind.

Money and/or losing Austin Hooper and Thomas Oser. I'm only half-joking about the latter.
(The Duck's operation has been scalable in almost all areas except for bringing in talent, where they seem to have hit a glass ceiling of sorts. Our operation, on the other hand, definitely scales much better on the incoming talent side of the equation.)

Maybe he got an early look at the sanctions heading his way...

It'll certainly be interesting to see how Helfrich runs their team. Everyone there is reportedly very high on him, you'd think that Kelly could manage to pick a good replacement.

ESPN's quote: "'Chip Kelly will be an outstanding head coach for the Eagles,' said owner Jeffrey Lurie said in a statement" sounds pretty definitive to me! Hate to be a cynic, but I'm guessing that Renaissance Man is barking up the right tree.

Does anyone want to speculate on what the Eagles' new uniforms will look like (all 16 of them)?

I'm bummed. I wanted to see Stanford notch another win against the Chipster after the Ducks sullied 2010 and 2011 in my memory.
I don't think I can savor the 2012 victory any more than I do now, but this means that no conference victory can possibly match that in 2013.

So, now we get to make snide comments on Pac12/Oregon fans about how the Dux are clearly coasting on "Chip Kelly fumes" and once "his guys" graduate/leave, the program will slide back to its rightful place at the bottom of the Pac12. Right?

Sadly I don't think this will be the case as long as Phil Knight is around. Remember the PondScum had success before Chipper, under Bellotti. Our best hope, here, is that Chipper's running from the law Pete Carroll-style, and that the sanctions will handcuff them.
Speaking of Phil Knight, I wonder how much of a benefactor to the Stanford athletic program he is. I know he's a big donor to the GSB. Maybe he figures funding Stanford's athletic program is a zero sum game vis a vis Oregon. If the sanctions are so severe that it makes Oregon a lost cause, maybe more of that Phil Knight money will fall Stanford's way.

Our glass ceiling (academic standards) is much tougher than anybody else's. Not complaining. This is the way I like it. Win with cruelty, character, and cleverness. The 2012 class showed the ceiling is higher than I thought. Will be interesting to see how the 2014 class tests that ceiling.

Chip Kelly lost seven games as head coach at Oregon:
2009:
Boise State
Stanford
Ohio State
2010:
Auburn
2011:
LSU
US
C
2012:
Stanford
So Stanford is the only team to beat him twice.

OK new theory. He's not running from the law. He's running from #PARTYINTHEBACKFIELD.

I think FarmBoy is referring to the comments directed by Stanford fans and opponents regarding Stanford's success, not to the likelihood of whether Oregon will continue to be successful.

I was bummed to hear this. Having Chip Kelly at Oregon was good for the Pac 12. He was an innovative mind, and the Oregon game was the one I circled every year. It forced us to raise our game. I have never been as proud of a Stanford football team as I was after we went to Eugene and shocked the world.
I don't think this will hurt them significantly. Everyone said we would tank when Harbaugh left but we have picked up very well under Shaw. All signs point to them appointing Helfrich as head coach and he is very well versed in their playstyle.

I don't know... Oregon's success before Kelly was a notch or two below their recent level and certainly not as consistent. Not even close. This is especially true if you chalk up part of the success in 2007 and 2008 to Kelly (then OC).

So he was 2-2 against Stanford and 44-5 against everyone else. Wow!

Feels like Notre Dame keeps pissing on Kelly's parade this year. Not that I think Kelly would care, but it's just odd.
Oregon comes so close to making it to the NCG and in comes ND with a fake claim to being one of the top two teams in the country.
Now, when Kelly should be the top CFB story for a few days (and his last chance to be so), in comes ND with a fake girlfriend story to steal the limelight.
