Main hope is that Mason and company also got some cash sent in their direction. Hard to believe Shaw would let that particular negotiating point slip, though.

Re: Shaw - Cardinal96 - 12-19-2012

This is great news.  Extended his current contract with two years for an unspecified period of time.  It looks like Shaw will be with Stanford for the next several years at least.

Just in time to have some of our fanbase call for his firing as soon as he has his first 4-loss season. =)

They're not releasing any details, and, as a private school, Stanford doesn't have to.  Hope David and his assistants are well taken-care of.

No kidding. That has got to be the least specific contract extension PR I have ever seen.

Still, excellent news (although not unanticipated).

Re: Shaw - 97fan - 12-19-2012

Hasn't Stanford generally made public the length of the contracts it signs with its head coaches? I don't that it doesn't have to, but it's a bit perplexing that it didn't do so this time.

Re: Shaw - stanfan - 12-19-2012

We finally have our guy.  "I am a Stanford man."  "I want to be here until my kids graduate from here and I have a two year old."  I believe he means it and I, for one, am delighted.  Continuity is so important.  I hope the university provides the support so he can keep assistants like the first rate ones he has right now.  David Shaw is a terrific fit and a wonderful representative of Stanford University.

Re: Shaw - oman - 12-19-2012

I'm elated.

And I feel like we are kind of on the cusp of something incredible.

Especially with the rise of the sports networks, never has west coast college football been so accessible.  Never has Stanford been able to establish it's brand in a way that is so readily visible.

Any new undergrad who comes to Stanford has grown up in a world in which we were unquestionably the best academic big time sports university.  The idea that we have been to three straight BCS bowls and have extended a contract to a guy who has been a big part of all three says to every incoming student that real success in our football program is a serious reflection of our overall university's goals.

Good god, we are going to be insufferable.
