Stanford opens as 10 pt favorites - FarmBoy - 11-25-2012

I half expected it to be more, after whipping them so soundly in LA. But I guess a lot of people think UCLA tanked it to avoid Oregon, so will be more competitive.

I was thinking about that.  Stanford as a 10 point favorite is more likely to win a game than, say, Oregon as a 10 point favorite.  I think there is likely less likelihood of wildly divergent scores given how sound our defense is.

I think 10 points is about right.  We haven't won many games by that much.  Just @ UCLA, Duke, @ Cal and Colorado I believe.

Well, if you take away the turnovers, we only won by 7 points.  In addition, we have 2-3 important players out or quite likely out: punter, WR/punt returner, NT.  And as you say, UCLA may not pulled out all the stops, e.g., running the QB more.

Many opening lines follow the sagarin predictor scores pretty closely.

http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/sports/sagarin/fbt12.htm

After beating UCLA, the predictor ratings between Stanford and UCLA differ by 6.4 points (89.27-82.87), to which you add the 3.14 point home field advantage to get a 9.5+ point spread.  The 10 point spread is more a function of which stadium they are playing in than the results of the first game.  If Friday's game were in the rose bowl, you would expect Stanford to be favored by 3 or 3.5  (i.e., 6.4-3.14), which is only slightly higher than the first game since that game only changed each team's predictor score by a small amount.  Just Say'n.  Go Indians!

Terrell, Zychlinski, and Stephens will do that.

I just watched the game again, and if these guys can figure out how to slow our rush just a tad...

I realize that no one has defanged us but no one has played us twice yet either.
