Re: Skov Natl. Defensive Player of the Week - fullmetal - 11-18-2012

Great job by Skov, and more importantly, the entire defense.  We might never see a front seven like this again.

Re: Skov Natl. Defensive Player of the Week - slide - 11-18-2012

nice recognition for Shayne.  probably a tough week for him after seeing many of his entering classmates take the final walk last week and he did not have the final walk t-shirt on.  he is a great cog to build next year's d.  next year we lose Thomas, Stephens and Debniak.  I think we have the depth to replace them.  if Gardner and Murphy leave early, then it will be a different story for '13 for our front 7

Re: Skov Natl. Defensive Player of the Week - needle - 11-18-2012

I still think Skov leaves--you really don't want to risk injury after you've already had a serious one--and Murphy and Gardner have to give some serious thought to leaving as well. My guess is Murphy goes.

Re: Skov Natl. Defensive Player of the Week - StannyBoy - 11-18-2012

I think Skov should turn pro as I can't see him sliding out of the second round. And I think Murphy could go pretty high too if he comes out. If Gardner sees himself as a 3-4 DE then he should probably come back and bulk up some more, but I think he'd go mid rounds if he comes out too. But if they all come back then we're looking at a NC run next year.

Re: Skov Natl. Defensive Player of the Week - tfeldstein - 11-18-2012

I would put my money on a NC run. Most of the speculation on this board is uninformed and bs.

Re: Skov Natl. Defensive Player of the Week - washingtonismoney - 11-18-2012

NC run very tough w/o Ertz.

Re: Skov Natl. Defensive Player of the Week - tfeldstein - 11-18-2012

Would love to have him back, but that ain't happening. Hewitt moves to TE and we are fine with he, Levine and Luke. Skov and Ward split FB duties. Montgomery/Whitfield/Owusu/Young/Rector have to step up.

The D will be better even without Thomas and Stephens.

Re: Skov Natl. Defensive Player of the Week - fullmetal - 11-18-2012

D will be better next year?  Someone pinch me!

Re: Skov Natl. Defensive Player of the Week - tfeldstein - 11-18-2012

Yes, Parry is as good or better than Stephens (we need some back-up to emerge at NT). The secondary will be better. Shayne will be healthy and pain free. Leuders/Vaughters need to step up and fill Chase's shoes. (This assumes Gardiner/Murphy return).

Re: Skov Natl. Defensive Player of the Week - washingtonismoney - 11-18-2012

You lose Thomas and stephens, but gain the redshirted defensive players (Noor Davis, Jordan Watkins, Ikenna Nwafor, come on down!) plus beneficial experience for the defensive backs. Plus possible contributions from incoming freshmen like Kalambayi.

(I think Kevin Anderson is also a possibility at OLB)

Re: Skov Natl. Defensive Player of the Week - dabigv13 - 11-18-2012

If college football has taught me anything, it's that a NC run requires a lot more than talent, you need a healthy dose of luck.

If Stanford competes for a Pac-12 Title again next year, that's all I can ask for. Whether or not Ertz or Skov, or anybody else leaves, I think we have a good shot at competing for Roses. If the cards fall right, an NC run would be fun but I'm not going to go into the season with that on my mind.

And we certainly do have a lot of great underclassmen waiting for a chance. Really excited to see what guys like Noor Davis, Luke Kuamatele, Aziz Shittu, Jordan Watkins, and of course Barry J, can do.

Skov had a nice game and his 4th down tackle in the Q1 was brobdingnagian...but I give it to Tarpley.

Re: Skov Natl. Defensive Player of the Week - BrevinsBest - 11-19-2012

Call me crazy, but I still see Skov a step or two slower than he was prior to his knee injury. I know Oregon is fast, but there were one or two plays where Skov took a horrible angle to the running back and ended up out of the play. I think he'll probably turn pro, but if he comes back, regains his speed, he'd be a very high pick.

Also, Ertz is listed as the #1 tight end prospect and Toilolo is listed as the 5th or 6th best TE prospect. I think Ertz goes to the draft. Not sure about Toilolo.

Re: Skov Natl. Defensive Player of the Week - Hurlburt88 - 11-19-2012

I have thought all year that Skov lack some of the explosiveness.  I think will continue to come back . . . question is as he plays with us or sits on Sundays next year!

They say that once the surgeons cut on your knee, you're never the same again.  (They being a doctor I know and an Olympian I know.)

Unfortunately, I have first-hand knowledge of this.  :(
