Defensive stats - needle - 11-17-2012

I don't have anything particularly insightful to add, just think all these guys deserve all the credit in the world!

Lost of credit also to guys who played but didn't show up in the stat sheet, including Josh Mauro for a memorable hit on Mariota early in the game and doubtless several others who played their asses off tonight.

Re: Defensive stats - iyengar06 - 11-17-2012

Carter and Brown were both great in terms of their tackling, and I think that was the biggest difference for the defense. As we all know, in recent years we've been exposed on the edges when our DBs - several of whom were very solid players - struggled to make tackles in space. Tonight, I can't recall that happening a single time.

I think Carter can still improve quite a bit in coverage (hardly a knock on the guy considering his youth), but his run support and tackling skills are excellent, and Terrence Brown is turning into an all-around excellent DB.

Lowest point total for the Ducks since their opening season loss in 2009 to Boise State, which beat Oregon 19-8.

Re: Defensive stats - fullmetal - 11-19-2012

Oregon's the only team against whose offense every tackle might as well be counted as a tackle for loss.  Run support from the secondary was awesome--I remember gaps where a streaking DB came in to make the open-field tackle.  And of course, there was the speed to close in on Oregon ballcarriers and the ability to shed blocks to make tackles.  Solid, solid effort.  This defense is the best in the land.
