Since the 59ers are so fond of remembering "The Play," let's compare and contrast:
Our student newspaper came up with a fantastic prank when confronted by adversity. Theirs corrects grammar.
(Of course, neither insulted article is exactly the lowest school-related publications have stooped in the rivalry: who can forget the 59er columnist last year who argued that the 59ers would never ever be good and should disband? As embarrassing as that was, that was no where near as embarrassing as the Stanford Review, which claimed during the 1-11 year that Stanford should drop kal as a rival and instead schedule...Princeton.)

Silver's anti-Stanford obsession goes back decades. Am pretty sure he wrote a disgraceful article prior to Big Game while he was a student at Kal, and from that moment forward, I have purposely avoided reading/listening to him (an embargo that will not be lifted until he at least acknowledges the douche-dom of his youth). My loss, really, because by all accounts he is a good source/commentator on NFL stuff.
Silver was (and maybe still is) a featured guest on KNBR, and before switching channels on his announced segment, I always wanted to forward Ralph and Tom that article from the Daily Californian with a request that they ask Silver about it. But alas, I never did track that down (too lazy to even look). I think it was in same article or edition that Scott Fujita "represented" so well. Yikes!
Anyhoo, I guess it's "at least something" that Silver added his parenthetical . . . Believe it or not, that is an upgrade from what he wrote in college.

Yep, he's a jackass. His anti-Stanford and pro-c.al biases are simply unbridled in his print and radio commentary. I had stopped listening to KNBR when Ralph Barbieri was on, and on the times when I did listen, I would change the station when Silver was a guest. He used to write for SI. He did one remarkable sales job to his editors back in 1997, somehow talking them into printing a curiously long feature article about Pat Barnes, making it sound like he would be a high first round draft pick. He detailed among other things Barnes' arrest for stealing some candy from the gift shop at the Claremont, as well as the accusation that Gilbertson blew his redshirt very late in his freshman year while allegedly saying, "I'm not saving him for the next guy." Barnes' result? He turned out to be a fourth rounder who never threw a single pass in the NFL.
But for all of Silver's hatred, here's the amusing thing: He reports to Yahoo. A company founded by Stanford alums, and whose current CEO is a Stanford alum. Hey, who's your daddy?
