Trivia - yvonne - 10-03-2012

Who has the all time NFL total offense record for a single game?

Re: Trivia - OutsiderFan - 10-03-2012

Norm Van Brocklin?

The guy who passed for the most yards in a game, something like 550.

Re: Trivia - Leftcoast - 10-03-2012

Most yards gained, total, game: 404, Glyn Milburn, December 10, 1995 for the Denver Broncos against the Seattle Seahawks in a game Denver lost, 31-27.  Not surprisingly Milburn's total was boosted by over 200 yards off of Punt and Kick-off returns.

Now if I could only remember where he played his college ball - he must have been something to see in person!  :-)

Bingo  :)

Re: Trivia - 82lsju - 10-03-2012

well total offense appears to be somewhat different as this site thinks Warren Moon is #1 with 529 yards (of course they only include games after 1960 when they have good stats).

Re: Trivia - Hank 91 - 10-03-2012

I knew this right away -- when I was setting up my classroom last month I pulled out my ESPN Trivia desk calendar, and I had left it on the page with that very question. Full disclosure: I didn't know the answer when I first saw the question last June.

Re: Trivia - CompSci87 - 10-03-2012

Hmm, yes. Total offense by convention includes passes thrown. Total yards gained apparently counts only yardage as the ball carrier.

Re: Trivia - fullmetal - 10-03-2012

I remember that from when I looked him up (he used to live in Austin, now in LA I think).

Re: Trivia - yvonne - 10-03-2012

He's got a whole display at Canton for that accomplishment.

Quote:Why Canton for the Hall of Fame Site?
The Pro Football Hall of Fame is located in Canton, Ohio, for three primary reasons; (1) the American Professional Football Association, later renamed the National Football League, was founded in Canton on September 17, 1920. (2) the Canton Bulldogs were an early-day pro football power, even before the days of the NFL. They were also the first two-time champion of the NFL in 1922 and 1923. The great Jim Thorpe, the first big-name athlete to play pro football, played his first pro football with the Bulldogs, starting in 1915. (3) Canton citizens early in the 1960's launched a determined and well-organized campaign to earn the site designation for their city.

There's a college football hall of fame, but it's located in South Bend.

Re: Trivia - yvonne - 10-04-2012

You're right. I wrote it incorrectly in the original post.

Re: Trivia - oman - 10-04-2012

The thing I like about Milburn's story was how his parents forced him to go to OU and then he transferred to Stanford when he got his head right.

I moved to Dallas, where I perfected by healthy and justified hatred of the Sooners, a bit before Milburn played, so this was a small victory.
