I Simply Cannot Buy this T-Shirt - Hank 91 - 09-30-2012
So the athletic department is trotting out its annual "we just beat U.S.C." t-shirt. (See below.) First of all, the shirt claims that U.S.C. should be used to this, but it brings up an obvious question. Shouldn't we be used to this by now? Shouldn't we stop making t-shirts about wins over SC? But I suppose they should be able to have their fun. So here's the real reason why I could never buy this shirt. It really bothers me when the losing score is listed ahead of the winning score. Don't they understand this convention? They couldn't have flipped the helmets around? No one looked at the design and realized this?

I applaud you for going beyond the fact that the shirt just sucks in general.
But you probably went to Stanford.

Speaking of t-shirts, the campus seems devoid of really good, creative shirts. Back when I was there, the ASSU had a shirt shop with shirts like:
Leland
Stanford
Junior
University
Marching
Banned
(because it was),
and "Harvard, (complete with its university seal), because not everyone can get into Stanford." There were also some really clever Big Game shirts.
Why aren't there any good, snarky t-shirts anymore? Most of the shirts are generic "Stanford" shirts.

I am kind of bummed that I could never find this guy on a t-shirt when I was there. And honestly had never seen him until after I left.

the shirt has been Overtaken By Events. Snarky t-shirts, and snarkiness in general, depends on a certain amount of swagger or smugness to support the whole premise. Getting our azz handed to us by an (on paper) inferior team just makes that shirt embarrassing to contemplate. Reveling in something that definitely feels like its time may be over.  I hate it when my endorphin-fueled high wears off. Â

The shirt just reeks of smugness. Much as I enjoy watching Stanford beat U$C, that shirt is not worth buying.

Saw it at the Stanford Bookstore. Loved it. Bought it. Wear it proudly....IN LOS ANGELES. I love the disdain in the faces of the Trojan fans I come across.

My favorite t-shirt from 20 or so years ago was a white one with a red squiggle that made it look like a diet Coke can. The caption: "Stanford University. Absolutely No C.al."

Yeah, I'm still stuck on 14-21. If it said 21-14, I'd consider it. I realize I suffer from some type of disorder.
