There has been a decided shortage of discussion concerning the genius and depravity of Nathan Bedford Forrest and the tactics of Confederate blockade runners since he departed for parts unknown. Was Oasis also the board member who wanted Stanford's band to convert to Mariachi music?

Nice to be back on the new, old Board. In some ways, since I was last trying your patience the world has become a more dangerous place. Iran's nuclear ambitions seem closer to fruition and Plaschke now has a TV as well as a print forum. In latter, he offended civilized readers again last week with a "keep-your-chin-up" puff piece in the L.A. Times about how brave Barkley isn't slitting his throat just because he discovered how the turf (along with the dirt two inches down) tastes in Stanford Stadium.  Â
It was delightful to watch how Stanford "put the skeer" on SC in the fourth and just beat them to death. When the air went out of the dream season the propaganda line went from "back on top again" to "young offensive line," "not enough scholarships" and "the center was hurt."Â You would've thought the Orc army had really been defending the Alamo.Â
With a little prompting a DJ at KUSC (who had predicted SC would "school the Cardinal") played Berlioz's "March to the Scaffold" Monday morning as a comment on the game and added a little of "New Colonial March" ("Come Join the Band"), which I had invited him to play in its entirety several times if (when) Stanford won.Â
Ahead lie discussions of the parallels between Sheridan's depredations in the Shenandoah Valley and the smart, evil offense they are operating at Oregon. Looks like we'll also get to the continued misunderstandings about Fort Pillow.Â
On to Washington!Â

Plaschke, Berlioz and Nathan Bedford Forrest? This MUST be Oasis. (Fort Pillow is the site of an infamous Confederate massacre of black Union troops and prisoners attributed to Forrest's watch.)Â
