1. Over the summer I had forgotten that David Shaw kicks ass. Watching this press conference was deep and inspiring. that man's head is screwed on. unlimited talk about substantive, lasting concepts, not empty football cliches.Â
2. I had not fully realized it. David Shaw has kissed the blarney stone. That man can motormouth without stop for long periods of time with those unlimited coaching observations. When does he breathe?
... mentions that he played under bill walsh, and then immediately zings himself for "that's just name dropping."Â *&#% love it.

Hmm, I was surprised to find the PAC 12 network iPad app, which had a few video snippets that were valuable to me. Those guys have rough production values and it is reflected in the app also, but was better than nothing to me overseas.
If we find that their system is not good at sniffing multiple uses of userID logins, I would participate in a market for piggybacking on someone's password for a fee... Because I see that the app will stream the networks if you got a cable provider password.
Plus I got to see a video slot called "terfor.ds playbook," which I stuck with for about 10 seconds.

To his credit, Draco Malfoy doesn't throw the backup center under the bus. But his utter deflation is really fun to watch.

Reporter: "Nunes today made plays with his feet, and it surprised us. Did it surprise you as well?"
Shaw, with a look of mild consternation and then gradually breaking into a smile: "Shocking is what it was. Shocking. I would say that if he was sitting right next to me. He's not a runner. But you know what though, you can't measure heart..."
Also, Shaw's comparison of Hewitt being the offensive team's emotional equivalent of Skov was interesting. "When he's there...we all feel a little taller." Good to have RH back then.

David Shaw has now solidified himself as one of the best coaches in the country. His team has gotten better each week, and the biggie, his choice of starting QB, has been vindicated. He hasn't been great, but he has been good enough, and he will get better. Shaw is steady as a rock and his confidence in what his team does and how it does it demonstrate how the players buy in completely to what they are doing.
Everyone thought Stanford's success was all Harbaugh, Gerhart, and Luck. The reality is Harbaugh and Shaw worked together for what, seven years. They obviously worked together to develop their style. Harbaugh tool it to the 49ers and now Shaw has just kept it going with Stanford. Stanford knocked both U.S.C. RBs out of the game. They beat the crap out of U.S.C.Â
The most impressive comment I heard in that presser was how this was not a special win, how we expect to win games like this. I don't think there is any possibility for any "let down" in Seattle. His team buys into what he is selling way too much for that to happen, IMO.

This team reminds me of the 2000 Baltimore Ravens complete with dominating defense, stud running back and just good enough QB.

Definitely good to have Hewitt back. Unsung play: on our first touchdown drive when we were trailing 0-7, on 3rd and 1 at midfield, Hewitt is stoned by an unblocked McDonald in the backfield and 2 other Trojans come in to try and finish him off. Somehow despite this, Hewitt powers through all 3 of them, leans forward and manages to just pick up the first down. The drive stays alive and results in Taylor's sweet first TD run to tie the game. I mean, who else in college has a 6-5 fullback that can do what Hewitt does?

Shaw didn't coach for that Ravens team; he showed up two years later. But I'm sure he picked up a couple of tips on how to manufacture TDs when your offense isn't quite gelled yet.

Reporter: "What was the answer to [Stanford's cover 2 defense double-teaming the outside WRs]?"
MB: "We obviously, we obviously did not have an answer to that."
End of press conference, length: 2min 44sec. That was a super short one. Also, $C is going to find an answer to the Cover 2 (many exist in the NFL), and they're going to be scary when they do. Well, that's if 9 and 2 can run precise underneath routes. I guess they make most of their living running go routes and never having to deal with crossing routes over the middle--or maybe it's a calculated decision to take those receivers out of harm's way given how thin they are. Our DBs got in some good ball separation hits over the middle.
$C's gonna need an honest run game to beat the Cover 2 as well. Good luck with that.
And yeah, that was a pair of really sad dudes.
