Stanford, #27 AP - dabigv13 - 09-01-2010

I\'m pretty sure these rankings have been out for some time, but I just noticed that we\'re just two spots away from being ranked, with 81 votes in the AP poll. If we win our first game, especially if we do it handily, we have a halfway decent shot at getting into the rankings.

I imagine it has been quite some time since we\'ve been in this position to start the season. If we\'re going to make a serious BCS push, it\'s important we get into the Top 25 soon and stay there.

i don\'t know if a crushing win over sac state would push us up (might even ding us if some lower-ranked team pulls off a stunning upset).  a loss is unimaginable.

It helps to have amnesia when you\'re a football fan of a certain age (mine for example).

Sac St?   We\'ll annihilate those guys!

Re: Stanford, #27 AP - fullmetal - 09-02-2010

garvin, I gotta chalk that up to the coaches involved and the team attitudes that followed from it...as well as a referee who could have laid off the sauce the night before, in the case of the D.avis game.

i had forgotten about the SJSU loss until you reminded me.  that was a defensive collapse (and a fumble that helped) of immense proportions.  but hey, Yonus D.avis was a decent runner.

by the way!  both Alex Smith (formerly of Tampa Bay) and Evan Moore (undrafted FA, signed by Green Bay, released due to injury) are tight ends competing for a roster spot with the Cleveland Browns.  Moore was formerly a WR for Stanford but has since added weight to play as a flex/slot WR/TE.  he\'s kind of had a snakebitten injury history too--let\'s hope that things work out for both Evan and Alex.

IIRC, Toby was running all over SJ St. as we built that 28 point lead, and then he hurt his knee (not that we should have lost without him, but worth noting).
