Try to act surprised ...Tiger & Elin call it quits -
Leftcoast - 08-23-2010
Ok .... I\'m guessing half of us thought this happened long ago.

The last time I saw Tiger was at the Cal game in November with his wife and children. Who could foresee the storm that was about to burst for all of them? Tragic ... in all meanings of the word.
Not that it\'s the most important part of Wood\'s rebuilding list, or even in his top five priorities, but do folks here think Tiger\'s golf game will rebound next season? After a season of very public pennance, will he be able to get back to being the world\'s best golfer?
I HOPE Tiger\'s game rebounds - Redrum - 08-24-2010
Let\'s face it, he PAID big time for his messing around. Joint custody, a brobdingnagian payout and a reasonable chance that in the future Elin won\'t brain him with a driver shows at least the two people most concerned have some sort of peace agreement.
So, I hope he can get back his focus and his game. Maybe a little less swagger, but with athletes it\'s hard to tell. Sometimes the swagger might be part of their whole mojo. Whatever, hope he makes it back. He was a great golfer before he even met Elin and before his humbling. Theoretically, could/ should be again.

It is good for Tiger if people think he "paid big time" because that will help him get back in the public\'s good graces. Tiger was rich successful, was screwing around with lots of women, but he was stressed that people would find out (especially Elin). If he really valued "family life" he would have been with his family. Even though he gave up a lot of money, he has joint custody and he will still be rich, successful, screwing around with a lot of women, but now out in the open, a "player." That\'ll bring back some swagger, plus being more relaxed and focused on his game. Â Â
OK. You don\'t like Tiger. Â Tell me this... - Redrum - 08-26-2010
...where does Tiger/Elin  sit on the
Marriet Ford Spousal Respect Scale?
(Just a calibration exercise before we get too wound around the axle w/ Tiger\'s so-called essential character. )
It\'s interesting that calumnus doesn\'t really give much credence the learning theory of human development. Â It\'s all about hard-wiring, apparently. Â I don\'t have a high opinion of how Tiger behaved in his marriage, Â but neither I nor calumnus know whether Tiger\'s learned or grown from the experience. Â Guess we\'ll find out.

Mariet Ford\'s acts were so despicable they should not be brought up in jest. The fact that Tiger\'s acts did not include murder in no way justifies them.
It wasn\'t a jest - Redrum - 08-26-2010
Not a joke at all. Â Â That Tiger disrespected Elin is an indisputable fact. Â Made worse by the public spotlight. Â That Elin ended up with $millions, her kids and millions of people rooting for her is also undeniable. Â Not a terrible outcome as bad marriage outcomes go.

Wow. Where did THAT come from? You are making a lot of erroneous assumptions. While admittedly I don\'t really like
listening to Tiger, I
love watching him play golf (the only time I watch golf) and have been rooting for him from day one.
I made no moral judgement about his behavior. My only assumption was that Tiger has found that he enjoys having sex with many women, since he did, often, for years. The only problem with that is that he was married to Elin. Now I believe that whatever their agreement regarding fidelity was between them, but clearly his behavior was not something she approved of and violated that agreement. Tiger went to great lengths to hide his affairs and was clearly stressed at times as revealed in his "texts." Now that he is no longer married to Elin, there is nothing immoral about him having sex with whomever he wants (OK, consenting adults). He can go on tour, have a "girlfriend" stay in his room, and not care if anyone knows about it. Golf in beautiful locations around the world, lots of sex, living how he wants, and still more money than you or I will ever see. I think his golf game will rebound accordingly.
Of course I believe that people learn. What does that have to do with this? What do you think he needs to learn? That having sex with many partners is bad? That would be YOUR moral judgement, not mine. He is single now. He is not going back to his marriage. Sure, he could choose to be monogamous or even celibate now, but why should he? There is no moral imperative to. Any "lesson" learned pertains to commitment and marriage, which I imagine will not be an issue anytime soon.

Tiger Woods does not live in a vacuum. He is a celebrity with little to no privacy. He also has young children. Whether the world approves of his actions or not is of no consequence, but I hope his children\'s perspective will have some bearing on his future behavior. He cannot undo the past and the time will come when his kids learn the painful details of their parents\' split. I don\'t give a damn about Woods or his golf game. I reserve my sympathy for his children.

I think the biggest impact on his children following the divorce will be a congenial relationship between their parents. Tiger did the right thing: joint custody and an extremely generous financial settlement to Elin. It is his life, but I actually think that Tiger entering a monogamous relationship now will make it more difficult to establish the new relationship with Elin and the kids because it brings another party into the discussion. Elin may be jealous. The new person may be jealous. Probably, the best thing he can do is remain single for a while and keep his romantic/sex life separate from Elin and the kids and that is easier if he does not have commitments to someone else, at least for awhile. Then he can still spend Christmas morning with Elin and the kids, for example. Sure the press will show photos of him "out with someone," but the kids will not read the tabloids for a long time. By then the press will be bored. He isn\'t married anymore so it is not a "story" unless the person he dates is famous. Single and divorced sports and movie stars are constantly dating people. It is a non-event. It is life. Again, it is HIS life and I wish him and his family well.

By the time his kids are 5 years old some jackass kid with jackass parents is going to make fun of them. Most likely it will continue for quite a long time. Sadly the cost of fame will be paid by everyone in the family.

Hey Calumnus,
Can you feel the rumble of the approaching football season? I was considering standing up for you and your seemingly reasonable position here, but I just can\'t. You\'re a weenie and every thought and opinion you have is just wrong. Tedfurd is a talentless mid-level manager and your mascot looks like he\'s high on shrooms and sleeps on the sidewalk on Telegraph with the rest of the student body. I hope your team loses every game and that you have to go to a movie on New Year\'s Day to try to avoid seeing Stanford win the Rose Bowl!
Cheers,
Pete F.

Kids at private schools in South Florida with rich/famous parents making fun of other kids with rich/famous parents because their parents are divorced? Sure, it could happen, but I think they will be fine, at least no more messed up than the rest of us. Â

Come on, you guys, get real! Â Calumnus won\'t have time to go to a movie on New Year\'s Day. Â He\'ll be too busy cleaning his gutters.
