I thought we might create one thread to track things in the coming months.

Here's the current list, with Rivals rankings:

I don't think anyone knows yet how exactly how many scholarships will be available, but people seem to be guessing around 13-15.

I count 10 scholarships from the class of 2013 that should open up (barring medical redshirts this season):
Taylor, Gaffney, Schwartzstein, Patterson, Terrell, Zychlinski, Stephens, Chase Thomas, Debniak, Bernard

From the guys who will have at least one more year of eligibility remaining, there are some possibilities for early exit to the NFL:
Ertz, Toilolo, Shayne Skov, Trent Murphy

Then there are the guys who've used a redshirt but might not get offered a fifth season. Some of these guys are far more likely than others not to get offered a fifth year, but the possibilities I see are:
Nunes, Meinken, Jemari Roberts, Danser, Wilkes, Mauro, Lancaster, Amanam, Terrence Brown

There could also be transfers and retirements due to injury, of course, which would also free up scholarships.

The big needs:
1) TE is at the top of the list. As noted earlier in this thread, both Ertz and Toilolo are NFL flight risks. Other than that, it's  one unproven guy--Davis Dudchock--and then what? Conversion projects, walk-ons, and the like. So it's a necessity to get one TE, almost regardless of quality. Fortunately there are quite a few good players left on the board--Hunter Henry is surely at the top of the list; perhaps Jordan Sherit from Florida; Jon Wisnieski from Iowa and the newly-offered Eric Cotton are other possibilities.

2) A LB. As odd as it sounds, there aren't as many LBers as we'd like. Let's say Skov leaves; with Thomas and Debniak exhausting eligibility as well, we'd have 9 scholarship LBers left, not counting incoming players, which isn't sufficient. (Then, there are three more LBers graduating after the 2013 season, we don't want to run into real problems.) Three LBers ought to be a priority; since we probably lead for Peter Kalambayi, we'll probably fill that quota sooner rather than later.

Other than that, it's basically about taking the best players who want to come, almost regardless of position. The lack of scholarships available for 2013 reflects the reality that we're about to cash in on a demographic dividend. 2013 will be the year to make another run.

EDIT: Actually, if the coaches decide not to extend a fifth year to Amanam, another corner should be brought in.

Peter Kalambayi to Stanford. He's some sort of linebacker--could fit in inside or outside. I'll let a curated sample of his offers speak to what sort of player he is: Boise State, Ohio State, Michigan, Oregon, Florida, Oklahoma....

QB commit Ryan Burns has probably paid the highest price for not being Andrew Luck.  Nobody else among the 5 billion or so human beings on the planet is blamed for not being Andrew Luck,  but Burns certainly seems to be.  Not accurate, misses the passes in game situations,  overrated...  it goes on from there.  The latest knock:  Burns is not attending the Elite 11 high school QB showcase/competition.  First we obsessed that he wasn't invited,  hence, not good enough.  Silly Stanford coaches.  Then we learned Burns declined the invitation because of an earlier commitment to work out with HS teammates on the same dates.  So...is he a great guy who puts t-e-a-m first, or a guy who is afraid to compete with the elite to be the best?

On Rivals new gunslinger in town Andy Drukarev got an interview with Trent Dilfer,  a former pro QB who runs the Elite 11 camp/competition.  Dilfer says "Relax".  Burns is way ahead of a lot of elite QBs physically but suffers from lack of actual game experience.  Only one way to get that...play football.

Good read,  but his sucking up to Stanford coaching staff is worth a chuckle.  "Pep (Hamilton) and Dave (Shaw), nobody in the country trains the position better at the college level. "    Really, Trent?  Really?

I wasn't aware they had offered Cotton.  One twitter report noted that Grant Martinez, a TE from Arizona, had a good camp and was told to contact the coaches early next week.  Wondering if, by that time, the coaches think they might have a read on Cotton, so they can decide whether to extend an offer to Martinez?

During Thursdays camp all players and parents went to the stadium and watched a 2012 Stanford Football hype video. Does anyone know if this is up some where online for viewing? It's a great video and I really want to see it again.

We have a TE!  Eric Cotton just committed to Stanford per @CardinalSportsReport.  Cotton was at the Stanford camp last week and made an impression on Andy Drukarev.

Stanford offered OL (C about to be converted to LT this season) Thomas Oser.  Oser is from Jonathan Martin's old high school.

Per twitter, Alex Anzalone is announcing at the Opening in a few days.

Also, Vernon Hargreaves recently talked about the schools that stand out and his plans to visit.  If you have a membership can you tell us if Stanford is one of the schools he is interested in?

Yup, we're on his list. Along with U.Southcentral, the Dux, the Irish, Alabama and tOSU. I assume one of the visits has to be unofficial, doesn't it? Isn't there a five-school limit on official visits?

He's taking a west coast swing this summer that presumably will help him narrow his list.

I think we offered Hooper because we're not expecting to land HH. Anzalone really hasn't been considering us for awhile. And Hargreaves is visiting after next weekend since he'll be on the west coast for The Opening camp in Oregon. He'll be tough to steal from USF/Miami since his dad coaches at USF and used to coach at Miami.
