I haven't watched 120 hours worth of film, but I'll have to say...that guy tied the largest Windsor knot in his tie that I have ever seen. 

It's almost as large as his brain...

I thought he said all you need to know when he mentioned that he actually hasn't talked to either QB.  Seems like his evaluation is probably lacking a little bit there. A few interviews with players, coaches and opponents might be helpful here.  But whatever...That's fine.  If he was really great at player evaluations he would not be on ESPN.

RGIII is a fine player, Luck is a fine player.  Indy is taking Luck, but that is the boring reality.  ESPN needs to find stories.

If they just announced, yet again, that they think Indy will take Luck, then who would click to watch the videos?

He was like Toby Gerhart without the moves.  Tough player, though.  Important to note that nobody is promoting, linking or quoting videos that pick Luck as the #1 pick.  ZZZZZzzzzzz.    But if you want to make your mark,  go against the grain.  Pick RGIII.  Nobody will remember if he was wrong.  No hearing the end of it if he was right.  That's known as a no brainer career move.

I'm not too wound around the axle about this.  It would piss me off that Griffin would once again be seen as Luck's personal spoiler,  but Luck and/or Griffin are going to make their own fate in the NFL.  I think it is much more important which of the two plays with the best supporting cast.  That's players, coaches and team management.  If the Colts have the best support and the best opportunity,  then I hope Luck gets drafted first.  If being available for the second pick gets him with a the best support and opportunity,  then RGIII can enjoy whatever comes his way with the Colts.

As you said, it's pure linkbait; manufactured controversy to generating suspenseful narratives leading up to the draft (televised by ESPN!).

You may remember Joyner from such wonderful Andrew Luck-related predictions as "Andrew Luck will have a sophomore slump," "Stanford's 2011 wideouts: They're Gonna Be Great!" and "Matt Barkley: will be Pac-12 first team QB over Andrew Luck in 2011." Joyner has also attempted such wonderful predictions as "Purdue: About To Break Out!" and "Clemson: Future Powerhouse." Truly, a man of wonderfully daft contrarianism. Keep on whoring for those clicks, dude.

Anyone talking about either of these players are locks to succeed or likely superstars, are ignoring NFL history. Ryan Leaf, Tim Couch, Akili Smith, Alex Smith, Vince Young, Jamarcus Russell, Matt Leinart, and Joey Harrington were all players that many people thought had star potential and just didn't pan out. Hindsight is 20/20, and everyone now claims they were laughing at the comparisons of Leaf to Manning, but it was a real discussion and debate at the time. The truth is, you just don't know. On top of the fundamental question of whether a player's college career translates to the NFL, you also have the uncertainty of team ownership, coaching, personal injuries, team dynamics, and any number of factors outside the QB's control that will determine who has a great career and who is a bust. Just look at Alex Smith. Had a great college career. People thought he would be great in the NFL, but it took until his sixth year and the right coach, system, and team chemistry for him to start to flourish.

I'm sure everyone has reasons why Luck (and RGIII) can't be compared to any of the above sad tales. But I'm personally skeptical of any college QB until they've started playing against the big boys. I've love Luck for what he's done for Stanford. He was an incredible college QB. I hope his skills translate to the next level, but I hate all of the comparisons made to Elway and Manning before he's played a down in the NFL.

I just hope that 15 years from now, the Luck/Griffin story has evolved into an argument  be similar to Elway vs. Marino, and not a cautionary tale like Manning/Leaf.

Substitute Luck for Manning and RGB for Leaf and portions of this b.ear uncanny resemblance to this year's draft debate.  Well, at least the pre-draft storylines - I'm not wishing Leaf's fate on anyone not named JaMarcus Russell.

It's beyond silly to compare either of the top-rated quarterbacks to Ryan Leaf. I've never figured out how Leaf got such high esteem from talent evaluators--he never completed more than 60% of his passes as a collegian. You would think that would be a minimum qualification, but apparently not.

And yet Gilman, Walsh, Sims and Angelo were called in to evaluate Leaf vs Manning and agreed it was close!  Walsh said, if the article is to be believed, that the Colts should pass on both and take Griese (Brian, not Bob!) in the second round.

Picking star QBs with the 1st pick of the draft is the ultimate center stage, high-wire act for a franchise.  The lights are all on you and you'll be the cautionary punch line for 1000s of jokes if you misstep. 

Just ask the Raiders.

ESPN and other sports networks live by the rule that controversy generates ratings. If there isn't any real controversy, they will create an artificial controversy.
