Here's something you probably didn't know about our beast fullback, Geoff Meinken!

That's a ridiculously impressive time, but I admit I was also cringing while watching because of the technique :)Â With a little bit of practice, I bet he could break another set of records...and if he ever gets tired of football, I'm sure the rowing coach will find him :p

I know, got one in my spare room. Funny thing. I was always better on the Concept2 than I was in my single shell. More to rowing fast than great legs. Still, impressive that Meinken could do that. Notice how he seemed to flame out in the last seconds? None of that wimpy catch-your-breath-in-the-huddle-every-30-seconds stuff in rowing, right fullmetal?

What's Love Got to do With It?

Oh hey, I love that thing! They have one at my gym. I love the Fishing Game!
umm, that's all I have to contribute to this thread. But it's more than I thought I would have.

There's a fishing game?! All I do is suffer on the machine while trying to improve my watts and calories burned rate. How do you get to the game?
Cheers,
Pete F.

I'm not sure what version is in my gym (I'm sure it's pretty old), but all I do is hit the button that says something like, "Main Menu" and a few choices appear like: Just Row, 2000m, and FISH GAME!!!! (umm, capitals and exclamation points are mine).
The game's a lot of fun and the only reason I use the rowing machine. I find myself sometimes madly sprinting and sometimes immediately freezing in order to eat the fish/avoid the sharks. To quibble, the small fish really should be worth more than the big fish since they're harder to eat, but whatever.

You might need a later model of the personal monitor to have the game. Those usually come with model D ergs (the light blue ones, dark blue plastic handles). The gray ones with the wooden handles (model C's) are pretty barebones, but for those of us old-school folks, they're just as good.
Meinken was using a lot of his back and not as much of his legs as he could have. Legs are generally stronger than backs, just saying :)
Redrum, they say that rowing a 2km race is like playing two back-to-back basketball games...in about 6 min or less. Kind of like a mile race--longer than a sprint, but not long enough to where sprinting doesn't matter. I'd like to take a bunch of the leaner football guys and see how fast they can go in an eight after some training...
