Team USA roster down to 15; Lopez still there -

Quote:Rookie of the Year Tyreke Evans, O.J. Mayo and Gerald Wallace were cut -- and Lopez might have joined them if not for his 7-foot frame on a team that badly needs height.
The New Jersey Nets center struggled last week during training in Las Vegas as he recovers from mono, an illness that team leadership wasn\'t aware of before camp.
The only other true center who survived the roster cut is Tyson Chandler. Â Kevin Love and Lamar Odom might serve as centers as well. Â I can\'t believe Gerald Wallace was cut. Â

I can: Wallace isn\'t that great and doesn\'t shoot three pointers. I like Wallace\'s game a lot in the NBA, but shooting is at such a high premium in the international game that you can\'t afford to trot out an indifferent shooter like Wallace. (Particularly since Wallace can\'t create his own shot--he\'ll get all of his points out of transition, which is also something a good international team will take away.)
Brook has an excellent chance to start; I think he could be one of those players who\'s better in the international game than the NBA one.

All true; I was pretty enamored with Wallace\'s freakish rebounding ability last season. Â I do forget how different the international game is from the NBA.
Brook vs. Tyson Chandler--it\'s a no-brainer. Â There are only two centers...

Yeah, only two centers. But like you said earlier, Love at center is a possibility. I\'d love to see Kevin Love get some run at center; he\'s been playing really well in the hellish backwater known as Minnesota. I just feel badly for everyone affiliated with Minnesota not named David Kahn. Love, Rubio, all those guys.

Brook withdrew today ... evidently due to lingering effects from his bout with Mononucleosis. Â

I guess he didn\'t think he\'d be able to make the cut even with his illness as an extenuating circumstance. Â This is the national team, after all =\\ Â They could use him at full strength, that\'s for sure.
Mono is bad!

I\'d rather have Lopez missing two limbs--any two, really--than JaVale McGee. McGee\'s missing one--his head.

Thankfully, McGee is no longer in the mix (hasn\'t been as of the last round of cuts, right?)... Â Tyson Chandler and Kevin Love had better stay healthy.

Examiner article has McGee replacing Lopez.

Totally missed that. Â I mean, I didn\'t even think the 12-man roster had been set yet. Â Throwing McGee back into the mix, but if the 12 have been selected from the final pool of 15, then that\'d be a little unfair. Â
