Jim Harbaugh claims Owen Marecic will be a starter on both offense and defense. Also refuses to commit to staying at Stanford for life, which I\'m sure will set off another round of Michigan/Kansas/Slippery Rock rumores.

Hate to mention it but....

JH is in tight with the people that have become the top administrators at the Michigan AD.  I think it goes without saying at this point that if RichRod stumbles, JH will be at the very, very top of the candidate list.  The new AD is a former football player under Bo, so we all can imagine how that conversation between former Bo players could progress.

I just would not see how JH would pass up the chance to help restore the glory of Michigan football.  Remember, JH would not just be turning down an opportunity to coach in a bigger stadium, with a higher salary.  He would also be turning down his alma mater and a program that would at that point clearly need help.

It is just hard to imagine a good alum turning his back on that situation if called to help.

So there are two paths for Stanford fans in the next two to five years.

Path #1 - RichRod turns it around and Michigan has several 8-5 or 9-4 type seasons.  Leaving Richrod on a consistently warm seat, not too hot and not too cold.  Not hot enough to get fired, but not cold enough that JH considers an interim spot that would take him off the market for 2-3 years.

Path #2 - RichRod violates more NCAA rules and Michigan gets caught up in a probation nightmare like USC.

RichRod gets paid $2.5+ million.  It is not hard to imagine that JH, as a famous football alum with a great track record, could command $3.5+ million.

Path #2 seems unlikely, so I will be a cheerin\' for the Wolverines to get at least 7 wins this year.

That has always been Stanford\'s rooting interest, regardless of who the top administrators are in Michigan\'s AD.  I know JH pissed off some Wolverines with his comments on football academics in Ann Arbor, but all will be forgiven when they come courting him.

And frankly, if RR gets canned, then I expect Michigan to go after JH and would also not be surprised at all if Jim made the switch.  C\'est la vie.  Fortunately for Stanford, JH and Company have resurrected the football program.  It\'s in pretty good shape now.  Yes, it can all come tumbling down in a hurry (as we saw with Bud.dy/Wa.lt, but I don\'t see BB making those kinds of errors.

Bottom line though:  I think Rodriguez turns it around at Michigan with at least a 7-5 record this year (improving after that).  We\'ll see.

More of Harbaugh\'s comments from Media Day.  I cannot tell if the media loves or is mystified by his idiosyncrasies.  Still it appears more and more that JH is a great fit at Stanford.

Imagine answering a question with a metaphor and then manipulating the metaphor -- that for coaches, players and fans the year begins when the season begins-- and expecting sports writers to understand it.   What\'s weird is 99.9% of Stanford applicants would get it.  But sports writers?  Nope.  It must be just wacky old Jim Harbaugh being a space cowboy.

Reminds you of Patton\'s comment on how we are not holding a &*%^$ thing. We are advancing constantly.

Maybe JH should play Patton in the remake.

If he puts up good performance on both sides of the ball, there\'s no reason why he shouldn\'t be a dark horse candidate.  After all, Ndamukong Suh broke the non-offense barrier again last year to make it as a Voldemort finalist.

The only issue is that attention given to Marecic may dilute the Voldemort attention Luck receives.  It\'d be a net benefit to Stanford\'s program though.
