I called Shittu, Hoffpauir, Rector, Murphy, Peat, AND Winston last night. And I'm still sticking to that prediction.

You think Winston will flip flop after taking a look at our OL?
Re: Amazing Signing Day -

Amazingly, Stanford flipped two (Rector, Hoffpauir), and went 3 for 3 on the uncommitted recruits. Also, there were no negative surprises as all the commits sent in a LOI. What a day to be a Cardinal football fan...
(Guess Winston's decision won't be finalized today.)

In my opinion Winston just isn't that big a deal, not compared to the others today. S.U. will continue to attract great QBs... Nottingham, Hogan and Crower are all highly regarded prospects who will compete for the position, and probably another one or two will come in next year.

Agreed, if we get him it would simply be icing on top of an already delicious 2012 recruiting cake and really put Stanford's thumbprint on the class this year.
If not, I am not saddened

yes, I think he was waiting to see how things would play out with Stanford and FS. Both finished very well but the Stanford's offense will be much better AND he's probably gunning for a monster MLB signing bonus this summer so he'll have more leverage by choosing Stanford. (academics, top 5 baseball, QB at football powerhouse)

The word around Birmingham is that Winston is still firm for FSU. It would be fantastic if incorrect but i don't think so.
Recruiting Class now #5 Rivals, #6 Scout -

Thanks, BamaLurker. After watching the interview with him this morning, I don't think he'll budge either.

I don't believe ESPN's rankings have been fully updated yet.

Their class rankings page also lists us as having 17 commits, including 3 from the ESPNU 150. I suspect that once they catch up with the news, we'll rank higher than #14.

I'm not one that normally follows recruiting matters closely, but today seems to have been an historic day for Stanford. This class looks on paper to be awesome.
This tempered with the fact that recruiting services don't always get it right. But the fact remains, you can't take a 6 foot 2, 175 pound guy and make him into an outstanding left tackle.Â
2012 an important season for David Shaw. If we can keep the recruiting going and the staff somewhat intact, well, we just may enter a new era. I don't expect us to play in the Fiesta Bowl every year, but I sure don't want to go back to the Wlat days.

Yup, I see 6 ESPNU 150 Stanford commits even though they currently say we only have 3. (The 6 are #9 Peat, #25 Noor, #27 Murphy, #44 Garnett, #80 Sanders, #111 Carter.)
Re: Amazing Signing Day -
Farm93 - 02-01-2012
Recruiting services are not exactly inaccurate. 5 star athletes as a group do better than 4 stars, 4 stars do more than 3 stars, etc.
These services probably systematically undervalue Stanford for several reasons.
1)Â Stanford will not have NCAA academic casualties
2)Â Stanford will have fewer transfers
3)Â These services do not really factor in an athletes intelligence, willingness or ability to study
The third one is big. Smart and hard working kids might not add much individually, but if that ability is common to the entire team then collectively they can do more with schemes, plays, reads, and game day adjustments.
I wonder if in 2014 or 2015 we will realize that once again the services underestimated the collective power of a Stanford recruiting class.

what a class. can't wait to see sanders running downhill behind this o-line. 'twas a great day in the big apple.

I'd bet a lot of former (and current) football players have the same reaction that we alums do about overall Stanford admissions.
"Damn, if I applied today, there is no way I would get in!"
