Re: Must be Kathy\'s influence - fullmetal - 07-26-2010

I see he was drafted by the Vikings as well, interesting.  Also interesting is that he went to A&M Consolidated HS and yet was included in the All-Greater Houston second team.  Bryan/CS is not that close to Houston...

Great, now I\'m really losing any reason to root for UTx.

Hallelujah! fullmetal has seen the light. The t-sips are evil. Good for Troy.

Walters\' inclusion in an All-Greater Houston team was by a high school sports marketing company called VYPE. It\'s part of FocusOnSports, a national company based in Wichita that publishes 17 regional "magazines" plus other promotional websites. Four of those magazine coverage areas are in Texas: north Texas, greater Dallas, Fort Worth and greater Houston. B/CS, which is some 45 miles north of the Houston metro area, is apparently in VYPE\'s Houston coverage area, probably because of A&M.

The current issue of VYPE\'s Houston edition features the All-Greater Houston basketball teams and names Stanford-bound Chiney Ogwumike as girls player of the year.

it\'s not that i think any higher of the aggies, let me put it that way, but now that Stanford is ascendant in the CFB world, i do need to put my eggs in the Cardinal basket.  but i do wish Troy well...

B/CS is about 100 mi northwest of Houston, not 45.  it\'s a ways out there.

:-[ Oops ... I was thinking about Conroe, about an hour away, where I always considered the metro area to start. After you hit I-45 there, it takes forever to get anywhere, no matter how many -- or how few -- miles you have to travel. Driving to the airport was always a nightmare.

I went on a job interview at A&M once. I distinctly remember one of the people telling me "We\'re not that isolated. It\'s only 90 miles to Waco."

I ended up in Seattle.

I had a job offer in Andrews, TX; which is about 50 miles from Midland/Odessa.  When I was in their Midland corporate office, I asked what they did for fun.  "Oh, we go to Dallas or El Paso."  I ended up in Palo Alto.

That\'s not quite how I ended up in Seattle, but still, I love it!   :D
