I can't believe they lost a 5 star legacy. Shows how pathetic their program is when the d-line coach quits and everyone starts jumping ship.

Re: New suicide hotline number: - FarmBoy - 01-30-2012

You gotta love these quotes from Joe Davidson:

It's official: Shaq tells us the reasons for Washington are: "It's where my heart is; second highest graduation rate in the Pac-12..."
and
Just heard from Shaq;Wash was a close 2nd to Cal earlier;really likes Tosh Lupoi, academics;best friend James Sample is there. It's done.

Seriously? What a slap to the face on the way out the door.

oh my.  ohhhhh my.  aren't they regretting not keeping Tosh...!

Re: New suicide hotline number: - yvonne - 01-30-2012

It's true. Only Stanford and Washington were above the national average for graduation rates. Cal's graduation rate for football players is downright abysmal.

In wonder if this is skewed by non-AQ schools that don't use their football program as a piggy bank and actually strive for true student-athlete balance. Still, that's pathetic.

I guess those Holmoe recruits still haven't graduated...

(Apologies to anyone who wasn't here circa 2005 and don't get the reference)

Cal's commit list - Redrum - 01-31-2012

Has 12 commits and 4 soft verbals.  In the soft verbals are their two WR stars:  Bryce Treggs and Jordan Payton.  Rumors are that Payton is gone.  It's possible, but not likely,  that they could have a class of only 12 recruits.  At one point they were thinking top 10 recruiting class.  Now it's just tourniquets and treasuring QB recruit Zach Kline.    Stunning reversal, but next year it could be us if some other school gets aggressive about picking recruiters out of our staff.

And, of course,  a weakened Kal seems to be nothing but making UDub's rebuild a shorter project.  In some ways it made our task in the P-12 North easier if Kal could rise up and beat some division rivals.  Not looking like they'll be up to the task in the near future,  but ya' never know.

Re: New suicide hotline number: - FarmBoy - 01-31-2012

I'm starting to get the feeling that our recruits are dropping like flies as well. I only really check the ESPN recruiting page, but they're showing we're down to 16 commits. I know we've got a few outstanding, but in the worst case of not signing any of Murphy, Peat, Shittu, or Winston, our class is on the small side as well, it seems.

I would prefer C.al pick up the top players than UDub or Oregon. At this point, it seems like Cal is where good players go to languish.

Maybe the school near Oakland should take a good, hard look at its football graduation rates and the sink or swim policy that some of its fans are so proud of. The "best public school in the nation" meme has been floated around so much this season, but for football and men's basketball players, particularly the black football and basketball players, the reality is VERY different.

Those scholarships won't go to waste - Redrum - 01-31-2012

There are some walkons who got/ get  1-yr. scholarships who will probably see them renewed if we don't hit a full class.  This is a good thing and helps with getting quality walk-ons in the future.

But i think the point will be moot.  If Rector signs and Hoffpauir signs  then  we're down to Peat, Murphy and ,  maybe,  our golden two-sport boy.

Re: New suicide hotline number: - StannyBoy - 01-31-2012

You forgot about Shittu!

Re: New suicide hotline number: - yvonne - 01-31-2012

Another one bites the dust! Previous cal and USC commit Jordan Payton (must be the track fan in me, but I always type that backwards) just committed to Washington. I fear we are witnessing the reemergence of the Huskies.
