A remarkable UCLA and single family "Bifecta" of sorts - Redrum - 01-09-2012

Stumbled over an odd UCLA factoid;

UCLA announced yesterday that  TE Ray Nelson had been suspended and eventually dismissed from the team for an undisclosed incident prior to the Bruins' bowl game vs. Illinois.

Well,  stuff happens.  Except....

A month earlier,  Ray's brother-- Reeves--  had been kicked off the Bruin basketball team.  He'd served a 5-game suspension for missing a team meeting and other reportedly insubordinate behavior,  and then apparently acted out while benched during an early Dec. game vs. Texas.    As if that weren't punishment enough,  he's currently playing basketball in...Lithuania.

I can't recall any similar incident of brothers being kicked off teams at the same school.  Probably doesn't matter.  The way things work in the Los Angeles sports hierarchy,  insulted Tro jans will claim that they hold the record, trotting out proof that they once suspended three brothers and a sister in a period of 21 days.

Randall Carroll was also dismissed. You may remember him from this prediction:

At U$C, suspensions only happen when the NCAA is watching.  I highly doubt the NCAA is watching U$C closely enough to force their hand on four players.  Isn't the NCAA still investigating $Cam Newton, or did they close the book on that one?  And of course, there's the Miami shenanigans over the last few years they have to sort out now too.

Quote:Isn't the NCAA still investigating $Cam Newton, or did they close the book on that one?

Pretty sure they closed the book. No evidence of wrongdoing by the school.

FWIW, I never thought there was a high chance they would find something with CN. The only reason evidence comes to light in these cases is because there's often a jilted party. The NCAA has no subpoena power. At USC, it was that wannabe agent with a grudge. At Oregon, Lyles may have some grudge, although it sounds like he was well compensated, so not sure what. With Cam Newton, everyone at Auburn with access to evidence is happy as a clam, and has no reason to step forward. They've got their "NC trophy" and Voldemort.

How about schools in the same geographic region? The Ladner brothers would qualify.
