Classic game, class programs - TheOklahoman - 01-03-2012

First of all let me congratulate anyone associated with Stanford on an incredible performance in the Fiesta bowl, and great season. The heights the Cardinal has reached over the last few years has been impressive to say the least.
What the rest of the country witnessed in last night's Fiesta Bowl was exactly what I thought I would see, a great game with two programs displaying a class not always shown in college football these days. A great hard fought game played without the constant jawing between players, and classless showboating. Of course I'd like to see what either one of these teams would do against LSU or Alabama, but I personally believe last night's game showcased something more impressive than what we'll ever witness in the SEC. Yes we take our football seriously, but I think the kids on both teams have the proper perspective.

Yep, true, this was about football and hard effort.

OSU would be my #2 after the championship game - Redrum - 01-03-2012

I'm presuming that LSU will prevail.  Alabama is a very good team but I don't think they're better than LSU.  OSU is better than a two-loss Alabama  no matter what SEC die hards will try to sell to voters.  OSU #1?  Maybe, if OSU had run Stanford out of the stadium,  but they didn't.  Also hard to argue that a team outside the NC game deserves to be elevated over that game's winner.  OSU's fate was sealed that night in Ames.    In that sense,  we share a common fate sealed earlier in the season.  We lost to a better team then,  OSU lost to an inferior team in Ames.

Now,  getting Barry Sanders Jr. might take some of the sting out of this loss to OSU.

Heh.  You win some, you lose some.  :)

If we hadn't won this game, it would hurt quite a bit to lose him to Stanford.  Since we won, I can remember that we are totally stocked with young talent at RB, and it would be a great thing for Barry to be able to get a Stanford education (not knocking OSU, where I got my undergrad and turned out okay, but C'MON!).  It would bother me to lose him to a place like Bama, but not Stanford.

Re: Classic game, class programs - wyattp - 01-03-2012

I just have to say it was very refreshing to see the sportsmanship and lack of show boating on both teams.  I specifically remember one play where luck had to scramble for the first down and got absolutely leveled by a OSU guy, after the play the OSU guy gave luck a hand off the ground, they did the good play pat on the helmet and moved on.

My hats off to you OSU, I would play you guys again in a heart beat.  Want to come join the Pac-12?  ;D
