Field Hockey 2026 - Papa John - 09-17-2026

Does anyone on this board follow Field Hockey? I haven't up until now, but I noticed that Stanford is 6-0 and hosting #1 Northwestern tonight (Sept. 17) at 6 pm.

Relatedly, one of the all time great LSJU field hockey stars, Onnie Killefer, is going into the LSJU Hall of Fame, the induction ceremony for her (and among others, Owen Marecic, Kevin Hogan, Ali Riley and the Shoji brothers from the M VB 2010 NCAA champs) is later this month.

Killefer also played on 3 other LSJU teams (volleyball, basketball, tennis) and might just be the greatest all around team-sport athlete in LSJU history.

Stanford lost, 3-1.

From the schedule at gostanford.com, it looks like Northwestern is the only ranked opponent that Stanford will face during the regular season.

RE: Field Hockey 2026 - Papa John - 10-29-2026

Stanford field hockey defeated Cal 2-1 in the final regular season game. Besides defeating our cross-Bay rival--which never gets old!--the win secures a spot in the ACC conference tournament in North Carolina next week.

Stanford is 10-7 overall but only 2-6 in the 9-team ACC. One of those wins is over highly ranked Duke. Nevertheless, I'm guessing that Stanford will need to win the conference tournament to make the NCAA's field of 18 (10 conference winning automatic qualifiers, 8 at-large). Out of 82 D1 teams, Stanford had an RPI of 28 entering tonight's match and was unranked in the 20-team coaches poll.

To recap the regular season, Stanford defeated the following teams, with RPI ranking as of Oct. 27:
#5 Duke
#21 Cal
#38 American
#43 Holy Cross
#44 UMass-Lowell
#52 Northeastern
#61 UC Davis x 2
#73 Bellarmine
#75 Central Michigan

Stanford lost to:
#1 Northwestern
#7 Wake Forest
#9 Syracuse
#14 North Carolina
#16 Virginia
#18 Boston College
#20 Louisville
