Pretty sure we've consistently been picked either at, or very near the bottom in basketball and football since we joined the ACC.
Good news is we have consistently beaten (the very low) expectations.
There is some talent and experience on this team, maybe not top half, but I don't see why we can't be competitive with the bottom half.

unfortunately we only play three teams in the bottom half of the ACC pre-season poll (and all those are road games)

That was a total troll vote. For years, Steve Spurrier used to give Duke a first place vote in the coaches poll because that's where he got his head coaching start, no matter how bad they were. I don't think this is Stanford's version of Spurrier.

The average ACC schedule would have opponents average rank at 8.5. (technically, between 8.5 and 9.5 depending on your own ranking)
Ours is significantly harder with average rank of 6.8.
I didn't go look at all 16 other teams schedule, but it wouldn't surprise me if ours was worst, or one of the worst, as far as ACC SOS.
