RE: MBB: Off season - Spiny_Norman - 04-06-2026

It would be a tremendous aid to Coach Smith in bringing in transfers if Okorie would make a commitment to Stanford for next season. Who wouldn't want to play with him??

Does Okpara have the option to come back for one more season? Or is he gone?

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong but Chisom didn't qualify  for a medical redshirt because he played in too many (17 of 33) games this season so he's used up his eligibility. I think the rule is players with season-ending injuries can play in no more than 30% of a team's scheduled games to qualify for a medical redshirt.

RE: MBB: Off season - PVTree - 04-07-2026

Read on another board that Giltay is in the portal. I hope not, but nothing is surprising in today's portal-world.

RE: MBB: Off season - BostonCard - 04-07-2026

Wow Kate Paye has created such a toxic environment that even the men’s players are entering the portal.

Super grim. I don't think I can laugh about this yet. What's the saying? Too soon.

RE: MBB: Off season - BostonCard - 04-07-2026

Grim but this editorial gets at the new reality of major college sports (and probably some minor ones):

https://www.wsj.com/sports/basketball/michigan-national-championship-final-four-998a1ed9?st=nUDW4L&reflink=desktopwebshare_permalink

Quote:And despite a reported $10 million roster, it wasn’t as easy as writing fat checks. Plenty of programs can pay. It’s talent identification, recruitment, plus figuring out how it fits together. It’s locating undervalued players that competitors don’t. It’s building a culture on the fly so the team plays like a team, and not a group of strangers who just met on the bus.

I’m not inclined to believe that this system will work for Stanford, even with further accommodations from admissions, a big donor ready to open their wallets and coaches willing to spend.

Paye will have to go, if not immediately almost surely after next season. If the allegations against her are even remotely accurate, she has sown the seeds of her own demise.

At the same time though, I don’t think bringing in a coach with a history in this program or some of the other ideas mentioned (eg Rouek) is going to do it. You need someone who is figuring out how to do “talent identification, recruitment, plus figuring out how it fits together.”

The first thing is to figure out if that’s what we want. It might be a bridge too far, in which case I think we’ll be looking at aspirations to mediocrity across football, men’s and women’s basketball, and firing Paye (though probably needed for other reasons) is not going to fix things.

If you a silver lining for a thought, remember that in the span of two years, both Michigan men’s basketball and Indiana football went from abject losers to national champions. So if Stanford institutionally decides to go all in on winning and executes it correctly, we are not in a situation where a three year Paye induced lull (or a 9 year lull in football of a two decades lull in men’s basketball) cause irreparable harm.

RE: MBB: Off season - Nobadeer - 04-07-2026

Jaylen Thompson reportedly in the portal now. Agarwal, Giltay, Thompson. And Benny G, JDS, Okpara and Rohosy out of eligibility.

LSJU M BB roster starting to look as depleted as W BB. Elephant in room is Okorie . . .

Does Eric Reveno have any eligibility left? :--)

Thompson was honored during senior night so we knew he was departing

As was Agarwal. We knew 6 were departing. Giltay is the only new one that was not widely known.

Without Giltay, I believe our only "bigs" for next year are Cammann (who isn't a center) and the 6'9" freshman who signed a few weeks ago (also not a center).

Am I forgetting anyone?

Tallis Toure (6'11"/240) & Kristers Skrinda (6'10"/230). Not surprising that you might have forgotten about them. Both saw very limited action this past season and spent most of it on the injured list.

Both bigs who didn’t play injured

Good catch.  That helps--hopefully they can play a full season next year.  Skrinda seems best suited to be a 3 or 4.  So maybe we're up to 1 center for next year?

When SKrinda did play early on, I kept looking for Giltay. He was injured. I thought Giltay improved in all facets over the season, has tons of upside, and I'm very sorry that he might move on. If he stays in the states, we will be very sorry to have lost him.

RE: MBB: Off season - Papa John - 04-13-2026

According to on3 Jeremy Dent-Smith is in the transfer portal:

https://x.com/StanfordRivals/status/2043777484697837794

I wasn't aware that JDS had any more eligibility, but I wish him well. He made some big shots for Stanford this past season and was fun to watch.
