In a news conference, Martin County Sheriff John M. Budensiek said that when officers reached the scene of the crash, Woods exhibited “signs of impairment.” After conducting roadside tests, Woods was placed under arrest and taken to Martin County Jail, where he must remain for at least eight hours. Woods was charged with DUI with property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test. Both charges are misdemeanors.

Budensiek said the crash involved a Land Rover driven by Woods and a truck pulling a trailer. According to Budensiek, the driver of the truck noticed a Land Rover approaching from behind at a high rate of speed. The driver tried to move out of the way, but the road was narrow. Woods tried to swerve to avoid a collision, but clipped the trailer, and his Land Rover turned over onto the driver’s side. Budensiek said that Woods climbed out through the passenger’s side of his vehicle, and that neither driver was injured.

“Mr. Woods did exemplify signs of impairment,” Budensiek said. “They did several tests on him. He did explain the injuries and surgeries he had, we did take that into account, but they did do some in-depth roadside tests and when it was determined he was taken under arrest and taken to the Martin County Jail.”

Yeah, Jim Beam or Jack Daniels.

He's got a sad history of driving while under the influence of prescription drugs -- he should have a driver or at least a self-driving car.  The breathalyzer did not detect alcohol, but he refused urinalysis, which would show drugs.

This story breaks my heart, although I'm grateful no one died in the accident. 

I know some folks on this board don't care for him, but I still count myself as a Tiger Woods fan.

He is certainly not the first athlete to be a phenom on the field/court course etc. and a total mess “outside the lines”.  

For many of them, the single-minded characteristic that makes them a great athlete is why they are unable to translate that greatness to their every day life.  

I am not a fan of these athletes whether they are on my favorite team or from my school.

I wonder if the realization that sex with porn stars is not the fantasy experience that he expected, combined with the guilt of cheating on his wife, caused him to turn to drugs and alcohol.

Even before, I wasn’t a fan of Woods.  A bit too arrogant for my taste.  His fall from grace was much like Icarus’.  

OJ?  He was a Trojan.  ‘nuff said……

Tiger still has a great deal of potential in his life.  I hope he pulls himself together and truly becomes a role model for his children and grandchildren.  I would say that he is short of that standard right now.  It certainly looks like he is still battling some particularly pernicious personal demons.  If he needs help, I hope he is not too proud to get it.

The guy has more money than most deities...you'd think he could spring for a personal driver or ridesharing.

Wouldn't hurt if he'd throw a little NIL support toward Stanford Athletics too.
