Jerod Haase is ACC adjacent - jacket3ree - 03-18-2026

Just hired in Greensboro.

New Gig

Nothing too noteworthy in the announcement. Proven leader with 25 years of college coaching experience across multiple conferences.

Had "success at Stanford". Sure. Fifth all-time in wins at Stanford!  (Because he was given too much rope. I mean he has 40 fewer losses than Mike Montgomery. Think about that.)

Glad, however, that he's back doing what he loves to do.

Winning in NCAA Basketball and particularly winning at Stanford saw a sea change during his tenure.  It was a tough gig but he never seemed to get the most out of his player talent which is the same job in every era.  I wish him luck in his new gig and hope it's a fit.

Yes if he loves coaching, then all power to him.
He was good, if not great at UAB.  Then started off pretty good with us.
Then led to a long drift into mediocrity.
By the end the vibe seemed pretty lackluster and distracted, from my fan viewpoint.
While not achieving raging success so far under Coach Smith, I much appreciate his emphasis on tenacity, intensity, and what seems to be a raised standard and expectation of playing hard with full effort.
He doesn't seem to suffer fools gladly.
Which is a sometimes difficult to maintain, but necessary, trait for a head coach IMO.

I think Coach Smith has proven he can do much more with much less talent than Haase had. On the flipside Haase recruited some great talent but it never led to consistent winning.

I doubt Haase is a Power 4 coach anywhere else. I’m not sure any power program would be attracted to his resume. Maybe he has great success at this job. Seems like a mid major type program is where he could do the best. Wishing him well.

Haase's teams never played up to their collective talent for sure.  But he did do a good job of developing individual talent--several players made the NBA.  Plus there were a bunch of guys like Keefe, da Silva, etc. who got steadily better through their careers.

I'm rooting for Haase to do well in his new job.

Wait, what??!!! He did nothing to develop talent. He was a disaster with the talent he had. Mr "Floor Burns" was pathetic in his seemingly orgasmic joy in seeing relatively untalented players dive for loose balls (literally the most animated he would ever get in a game...jumping up and down like a wild man) but had a penchant for losing the locker room with his talented players. And even those who he didn't seem to lose, most recently Raynaud and Jones, are playing great in the NBA now DESPITE Haase. They would have been drafted higher if he hadn't misused them, esp Jones. Cost them a bunch of money and accolades.

TLDR: Haase seemed like a nice guy, but he had no business being a head coach at Stanford.

You’re missing the point. People have to say nice things about Haase. Otherwise, they might have to admit that Dawkins was better. You remember, Dawkins - the guy who’s back in the Big Dance again this year…

RE: Jerod Haase is ACC adjacent - BostonCard - 03-19-2026

I think their records speak for themselves.  Dawkins had a pretty bad 156-115 (.576) record while at Stanford.  But Haase had an even worse, under .500 record of 126-127.  I don’t think you would get a lot of pushback if you made the case that Haase was a worse coach than Dawkins at Stanford, but that doesn’t mean he was good.

In just about 2 seasons, Kyle Smith is 41-26 (.612), which is better than either of them, and particularly impressive given the state of the program he inherited.

I think Haase recruited very well, actually really well. But stumbled a bit in developing and keeping the players. Albeit Stanford being late to the NIL game didn't help him any.  Raynaud being a good example of a player who really blossomed under new Coach Smith, compared to Haase, as the emphasis shifted towards Raynaud focusing more on Defense, which actually expanded his whole game to be a more complete player and made him far more attractive to the NBA.  Unfortunately, I have seen some early similarities of Coach Paye to Coach Haase which I hope are soon banished. Tonight vs LMU being a good opportunity to show the players have developed well this season and are coming together better in team play.

Reynaud improved every year he was in the program, and though he became a star and centerpiece his senior season, his big improvement jump occurred between his sophomore and junior year.
