MBB: Stanford vs. Clemson, 7PM, ACCN - skip75 - 02-04-2026

In the midst of a 4-game losing streak, Stanford returns to Maples to face #20 Clemson. Clemson is favored by 3.5 and the over/under is 138.5, making the implied score 71.5-67. The Tigers are 18-4, 8-1 in ACC play, and 4-2 on the road.

Clemson has nine players who have played in all 22 of their games. They all average between 17 & 27 minutes per game. None of them are among the top 25 scorers in the ACC. But as a team, they rank 2nd in defense (64.5 points/game), they are 3rd in opponent's FG% (39.9) and first in opponent's 3 pt. FG% (29.3). Will Stanford be able to get into a flow on offense and get some balance between an inside game and getting some good looks from 3?

Likely Tiger starters are:
#0 Robert Godfrey (6'7/240 Sr F) After 2 seasons at Clemson, he spent a year as a starter at Georgia, then came back to Clemson(?!?). Averages 12.0ppg on 65.2% shooting.
#1 Jestin Porter (6'1/180 Gr G) 3 seasons at Middle Tennessee (2x All-CUSA 2nd team). Scores 10.8ppg, #20 in the ACC with 2.0 3s/game, and #21 with 1.9 steals/game.
#22 Carter Welling (6'11/240 Jr F) Now 3-3 after a year at UC Irvine & a year at Utah Valley (where he was WAC Defensive PoY & All-WAC 2nd team). Scores 10.3ppg and is #2 in the ACC with 5.8 rebounds/game.
#2 Dillon Hunter (6'3/195 Sr G) A rarity - a 4-year Clemson guy! #18 in the ACC with 3.1 assists/game and #4 with an assist-to-TO ration of 2.6.
#10 Jake Wahlin (6'10/210 Jr F) 2 seasons at Utah.

We will need an absolutely killer home court / jet lag advantage working for us.
As well as the hoped for big game from Ebuka.
And some of our supporting cast to step it up big time.
A lot to hope for, all coming together at once, otherwise could get ugly.

Without Okpara, Stanford has looked like the 17th place team in the ACC. The Cardinal are a scrappy bunch and they play really hard for Coach Smith. But the talent gap is large against most ACC opponents. And without Okpara, the Stanford defense has looked really soft. Also without Okpara and other injured reserves, the guys who do play have to play a lot of minutes and I think we have seen the fatigue at the end of recent games.

I'll be surprised (and happy) if this team can win more than 2 games the rest of the season.

Curiously, jet lag isn’t nearly as nasty traveling east to west, as it is traveling west to east. Trust me on this.

In a half, Camman played his best game ever. Way to go and hope it's a little break through. Stanford really playing hard, and very few to's so far. Camman's last sec 5 footer on a pass from Okorie puts Stan ahead. EO has 12 pts I think.

I care!

My add is that Clemson is shooting poorly from three (3-11), partly due to a hounding Stanford defense. I like Stanford's chances if Clemson keeps jacking up threes.

Definitely depends on the individual. For me, returning from the east coast was always more jet-lag inducing than going to the east coast. On long flights where I can get 6 or more hours of sleep, the direction doesn't matter. I will not suffer much at all from jet lag. Leaving from SFO at midnight and walking into the office at about 8 AM local in OZ is just a normal day :-).

Tough loss. Hopefully, Cammann can have similar performances to close out the year. Also, Jaylen Thompson has earned his playing time, and then some.

Great to see Cammann catch the ball and look for the basket, again and again. He had scored in double figures only once in his LSJU career before tonight.

Giltay is a force. The refs had it out for him. He's averaging a foul every ~ 7 minutes played.

As for Gealer (missed at least his first 5 threes), Agarwal (2 early threes and then bupkis), and JDS (missed front end of 1 and 1 late) and the refs . . . arrrggghh. This game was eminently winnable over the so-called # 20 team in the land.

Student section moderate. Mostly seated throughout. (Did any of these students ever attend a basketball game of any sort, before matriculating at LSJU? Do they have any idea how to cheer and (mis)behave at a home basketball game?!)

Silver lining - Clemson missed a pair of second half FTs. Shake shack burgers tomorrow for all.
