2025 Stanford at Miami Predictions Thread - george - 10-21-2025

One of my all time favorite Stanford football memories was playing in Miami in 2011.  I recall meeting many of you that Orange Bowl year as well.

Awesome game. Plus the time at the Clevelander

RE: 2025 Stanford at Miami Predictions Thread - ADPinWDC - 10-21-2025

Canes will be pissed, looking to run up the score after the loss to LOUV.
MIAM already favored by 30 in Hard Rock.
So, 42 to 17, they fail to cover the spread...
Will Micah Ford be available? No.
O-Line?

RE: 2025 Stanford at Miami Predictions Thread - fullmetal - 10-21-2025

No proven QB talent, no Leigber for the first half.  Are we running triple option and winning time of possession?

RE: 2025 Stanford at Miami Predictions Thread - SkiBum80 - 10-22-2025

Lots of injuries. Targeting penalty. On the road. Far on the road (dare I utter the phrase Jet Lag??). A top opponent.
Hoping for the best.
Fearing the worst (with great apologies to FDR).

RE: 2025 Stanford at Miami Predictions Thread - Papa John - 10-22-2025

I just noticed that this is Miami's 7th game this season, their 6th at home. The one away game was in Tallahassee vs FSU, so they haven't left Florida yet this season! Meanwhile, this will be Stanford's 8th game, our 5th away from home. Our closest away game is BYU.

Not that this is a new issue, but by the end of the regular season Miami will have 4 away games--only one will be outside the Eastern time zone (SMU so one hour earlier). Stanford has 6 away games and not a single one will be played in the Pacific time zone.

Yes, it's not fair. But we didn't want to be an independent, and we didn't want to join a conference with too many schools ending in "State." So we signed up for the ridiculous, mind-numbing, jaw-dropping, bad-for-athletes travel.

All true, but I really wasn't angling for the "not fair" claim. I was implying that Stanford should schedule nonconference games more like Miami. Other than Notre Dame, only schedule teams in the Pacific time zone, ideally with a 2-home-1-away arrangement. We would only need two or three non-P4 schools from Wazzu down to SDSU who would go for it. If that doesn't work then schedule a home game vs. an FCS opponent every year. Mimimum 7 home games every season.

The future of Notre Dame's annual games with Stanford and USC still has not been announced. Currently, Stanford has not P4 games on its schedule 2026, 2028, 2029, and 2030. In years Stanford does not play ND, it will be scrambling to meet the requirement of at least one P4 non-conference game.

I can see USC-ND going away, but ND has an affiliation with the ACC, so maybe that will impact their decision to keep the Stanford series? Or is it Stanford who wants to discontinue the series?

In any case you are, of course, correct that w/o ND Stanford will be scrambling to meet the one P4 nonconference game requirement. In that case, I would encourage Stanford to drop Vanderbilt and schedule a mountain or west coast P4 team. Unfortunately, there aren't that many of them: 4 in the B1G (Oregon, UW, USC, UCLA), 5 in the Big 12 (UA, ASU, Utah, BYU, Colorado). I think that's all of them.

Would be nice to set up some games with our former pac-12 foes, once we get over being pissed at them for destroying the PAC-12.

I would guess we have at least one of the reported issues USC does with the current series, preferring to play the games in South Bend before conference play starts (and for us hopefully before school starts).

Further complicating things is the 12 year deal ND signed to play Clemson every year starting in 2027

https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/45022300/clemson-notre-dame-announce-12-year-scheduling-agreement

those games will apparently count as one of the five games a year ND plays against ACC teams.  If they signed a similar deal with us that would leave three games a year to rotate among all the other ACC teams which those teams may not like.

RE: 2025 Stanford at Miami Predictions Thread - Mick - 10-24-2025

It wouldn't break my heart if we suspended the Notre Dame series. I'd rather play almost anyone else.

RE: 2025 Stanford at Miami Predictions Thread - Leftcoast - 10-24-2025

Really?  I love the ND game when we're first good.  We get to see a team with top 10 aspirations, national media presence, great gameday atmosphere and ... we've been competitive.

I admit to dreading it when we're really bad.

My nightmare is we replace it with a set of 3rd tier California teams - UC Davis, Sac St, San Jose St, or similar.  And the football world ignores us.

RE: 2025 Stanford at Miami Predictions Thread - ADPinWDC - 10-24-2025

Can anyone name our starting O-Line?
Does it exist?

Frankly, I don't dread it at all for the next two or three years.  We need to get back to getting used to winning.  The ACC schedule will be tough enough.  I no longer miss the game with the Spoiled Children and will not miss the game with ND.  What is the point of playing a schedule when rebuilding that gives you little chance of a bowl game or going better than 50/50?  Trying to rebuild while being a replay of "MASH" is not the answer.

Beck is overrated (and reminiscent of a would be love child of Amanda Seyfried and Ted Cassidy). Cards shock the world and win by one. Go Cards and RTR.

have we ever played a team wearing camo before?
just wondering.

Good question. In its long history, Stanford has played 38 regularly scheduled games against teams with military affiliations, including 12x against Army, 4x against Navy, and 7x against Air Force. Here's the full list. Might be some camo uniforms in that lineup...
